Super Bowl LIX brought us the spectacle you’d hope from one of the most iconic moments in the global sporting calendar 🏈 I had the privilege of being in New Orleans and the atmosphere was truly electric, with a strong gathering from all corners of the US sports and entertainment industry. It was brilliant to watch the Eagles’ triumph over the Chiefs as underdogs, but also seeing FanDuel bring back the Kick of Destiny with the Manning brothers – congratulations to Eli! What really makes me proud is witnessing all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes for these huge sporting moments. I met with many colleagues that are collectively responsible for bringing our customers the best products, the best odds, and the best experience for the Super Bowl – and from an operational perspective, it didn’t disappoint. FanDuel saw a record 16.6m bets placed by 3m active customers, with the platform successfully executing close to 70k bets a minute at peak engagement. This takes a lot of internal preparation and global collaboration to get right, which I enjoyed reading about in this article, which takes you behind the scenes into how our trading function approaches the biggest sports betting event of the year. There were amazing scenes at a Swindon Super Bowl viewing party last Sunday, as NFL legend Rob Gronkowski interrupted live coverage to make a surprise announcement to local American football club Swindon Storm. The four-time Super Bowl champion revealed that Swindon Storm will be the first of 200 clubs across the UK and Ireland to receive a £2,000 grant from Flutter UK & Ireland's #Cash4Clubs campaign. This initiative, which has invested nearly £6.5 million into grassroots sports over the past 20 years, focuses on supporting clubs in deprived areas to help drive participation in sports and wellbeing, improve facilities and run coaching programs. The grant will be transformational, enabling them to provide protective equipment for new players and remove financial barriers to participation. It's a remarkable contrast - while Gronk played at the 64,000-capacity Gillette Stadium, Swindon Storm meets weekly at Southbrook Playing Fields, demonstrating the true spirit of grassroots sports development.
