A year ago, Zipline and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi established the Zipline/KNUST Research Grant Award. This award empowers Ghanaian students to design, conduct, and submit research for publication. In a little less than one year, 11 KNUST students carried out two research projects focusing on sexual and reproductive health as well as healthcare disparities among underserved populations, with funding and mentorship from Zipline’s impact evaluation team. At last week's Zipline/KNUST Research Grant Award Ceremony, the students were recognized for producing groundbreaking research on the impact of drone logistics on the health supply chain and outcomes in Ghana. These young minds are paving the way for continued research in the area, and we're so proud to celebrate their hard work. Congratulations to the students Samuel Benjamin Doughan, Elikplim Abui Tamakloe, Bismark Owusu Agyemang, Michael Owusu, Abdul Ganiyu Abubakari, Sulemana Ibrahim, Abdul-Hakim Mutala, Francisca Egyaim, George Essel, Shadrach Tetteh Boyetey, and Abdul-Latif Mohammed. At Gavi’s Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation, Keller Rinaudo Cliffton celebrated Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance's commitment to scaling up innovation to vaccinate the next billion faster and at far less cost. Zipline and Gavi have already delivered more than 17 million vaccine doses together and aim to deliver another 250 million with government partners over the next five years. By having the lightest aircraft possible, we can deliver farther and reach customers more efficiently. That means we had to come up with a workaround for the heavy and messy cables that could power our Zips. Zipline Integration Lead Lauren Lacey explains why we opted for busbars and flex harnesses instead.

This isn't a simulation. Each triangle represents a Zipline drone delivering in Rwanda, and the blue dots show emergency medical deliveries. Our system operates 24/7 across nine countries.

No person should receive inadequate care or be turned away because a medical facility does not have enough blood. Zipline is partnering with CorpsAfrica and National Blood Service Ghana to host monthly blood drives across Ghana, using drone delivery to get blood to facilities where people need it, when they need it.
