Food Bank for the Heartland

Today is an extra special #FeelGoodFriday as President & CEO of the Food Bank—Brian Barks—and other Executive members from the Food Bank had the opportunity to meet with one of our Network Partners, Good Neighbors Food Pantry, in Norfolk, Nebraska! Allene—Director of Good Neighbors Food Pantry—took the time to give us a tour of the food pantry and share valuable and insightful information about the food served to our neighbors in need, the importance of volunteers, and how the Food Bank is helping combat hunger in this community. “Nobody is denied food. Ever.” says Allene. We are beyond thankful for Allene and all who serve at Good Neighbors Food Pantry for joining the fight against hunger and for being an important part of the Food Bank’s community. #FoodBankHeartland

Earlier this month, we had the privilege of hosting a panel featuring experts from the architecture, engineering, construction, and nonprofit sectors. They shared valuable insights into how their organizations engage with community service opportunities, and how they incorporate that involvement into their marketing, proposal efforts, and overall business planning strategies. Our very own Erin Burke—Corporate Relations Officer at the Food Bank—also spoke on the panel. It was a great experience to educate local industries on how they can make a difference and hear how they leverage community engagement to drive both social impact and business success! #FoodBankHeartland

This #FeelGoodFriday, we want to share different ways that our community has taken action in the fight against hunger! This year was the 13th annual BaseballOWEEN food drive hosted by the Omaha Storm Chasers! The kiddos brought in non-perishable food items—collecting more than 1,119 lbs—for our neighbors in need while dressing up in their favorite Halloween costumes! Additionally, the ELKHORN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION INC hosted a Stuff the Truck event at Familyfare to collect donations for neighbors experiencing food insecurity! Thanks to those who donated, the Elkhorn Athletic Association collected 1,645 pounds of non-perishable food items! That is the equivalent of 1,370 meals for our neighbors in need. On behalf of the team at the Food Bank, our Network Partners and the individuals and families we serve, thank you! We could not provide this life-changing work without the generosity of our community. #FoodBankHeartland

Another #FeelGoodFriday this week at the Food Bank! We are so excited to announce the Food Bank’s 24th annual Celebrity Chef Event with a twist! For the first time ever, this event will not only feature a national Celebrity Chef—Tom Coliccho—but also a culinary cook-off between some of Omaha’s top chefs including Nick Strawhecker at Dante, David Utterback at Yoshitomo, and Tim Nicholoson at Boiler Room! Get active on Thanksgiving while supporting Heartland neighbors in need. The Feast and Feathers run in Omaha offers something for all runners.
