As the holiday season approaches, many of us look forward to festive meals and gatherings with loved ones. This year, why not add a sustainable and healthy twist to your celebrations?🎄 Here are a few simple ways to embrace sustainability in your holiday feasts: 🌍 Go local: Source your ingredients from local farmers or markets to support regional food systems and reduce your carbon footprint. 🌱 Plant-forward meals: Celebrate with dishes that centre on seasonal vegetables, legumes, and whole grains—delicious, nourishing, and kind to the planet. Try incorporating more vegetarian options and reducing meat consumption for a significant environmental impact. 🍎 Minimize waste: Get creative with leftovers and plan portions carefully to avoid food waste. By making thoughtful food choices, we can honour the spirit of giving while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable future for all. Let’s make this season a celebration of community, health, and the planet! #FoodSHIFTPathways #Eramsusplus #sustainability #healthyeating #education #futuregeneration #environment #SustainableFoodSystems #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #FoodEducation #SustainableHolidays Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Ciência Viva Fab Lab Barcelona Ellinogermaniki Agogi Ioakeimidis Sofia Spolander Hanna Wieslander Katerina Riviou Carsten Meedom Dirk Wascher Aleksandra Jovanovic Julia Leirado Silva FoodSHIFT 2030

🌱 Exploring Foodscapes Together 🌍 On November 22nd, partners from Sweden and Danmark came together from the FoodSHIFT Pathways project for an inspiring Foodscape Walkabout in Frederiksberg, Denmark. The event, hosted by Subash Rana, University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet), brought together pupils from Lindevangskolen and students from Aeres Hogeschool Almere to explore the local food environment. Through experiential learning and co-creation, participants mapped the food and green spaces surrounding the school. Back in the classroom, the students worked together to analyse the pictures they had taken, reflecting on the environments they encounter in their daily lives and thinking about how these spaces could be improved to better support sustainability, health, and community well-being. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success! Together, we’re paving pathways for a healthier and more sustainable future. #FoodSHIFTPathways #Eramsusplus #sustainability #healthyeating #education #futuregeneration #environment #SustainableFoodSystems #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #FoodEducation #FoodscapeWalkabout #ExperientialLearning Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Ciência Viva Fab Lab Barcelona Ellinogermaniki Agogi Ioannis Ioakeimidis Sofia Spolander Hanna Wieslander Katerina Riviou Carsten Meedom Dirk Wascher Aleksandra Jovanovic Julia Leirado Silva FoodSHIFT 2030

🔍 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺: 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 🧼🍋 As part of FOODSHIFT PATHWAYS project, our partners from Fab Lab Barcelona conducted a transformative activity at the #InstitutCiutatdeBalaguer in Lleida, Catalunya, where 1st-year high school students learned to turn food waste, such as citrus peels, into sustainable cleaning products. This initiative reinforces our commitment to introducing sustainability and circular economy concepts into education, empowering the younger generations as agents of change. 👩🏫 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 With the support of local supermarkets like Caprabo and Plusfresc Supermercats, students gathered the necessary materials, reflecting on the reuse of resources and the importance of collective work towards a common goal. This activity took the classroom a step further, transforming it into a living lab and connecting students with real-world problems and key social actors. In doing so, they discovered their transformative role in our food system. 📊 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During the workshop, students created products such as multi-purpose cleaners and natural air fresheners, applying the scientific method and reflecting on their impact with end users in their educational environment. They also documented every step of the process like true "influencers," using multimedia tools to share their experience. This approach, framed within the evaluation of the Foodshift Pathways project, strengthened essential skills such as #criticalthinking, #systemsthinking, and #futurevision. 🎉 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 We extend our gratitude to the Institut Ciutat de Balaguer and its teaching team for being part of this initiative, and to the students, whose enthusiasm and creativity inspire us to keep working toward a more sustainable future. 🌱💡 This is just one example of how our actions are building an educational community committed to turning the challenges of food waste into opportunities for change. 👀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 We invite you to visit the Foodshift Pathways YouTube channel -> https://lnkd.in/evprvchc where you will find videos designed to support teachers with practical tools and ideas to bring sustainability into the classroom. #FoodshiftPathways #FabLabBarcelona #Sustainability #InnovativeEducation #CircularEconomy #PlanetCare #FoodWaste #SustainableProducts Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Ciência Viva Fab Lab Barcelona Ellinogermaniki Agogi Ioannis Ioakeimidis Sofía Williamson Sofia Spolander Hanna Wieslander Katerina Riviou Carsten Meedom Dirk Wascher Aleksandra Jovanovic Gabriela Pérez Alvarez

🔍 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 🍄🌱 This week, Fab Lab Barcelona visited Joan Miró School in Granollers, Catalonya to conduct a learning activity on mushroom cultivation using coffee grounds with three primary classes. This initiative is part of the FOODSHIFT Pathways project, aimed at introducing concepts of sustainability and circular economy into the educational space. Although the project is just starting, we are excited to see the outcomes in the coming months. 👩🏫 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Days before our visit, teachers and students at the school organized a collection of organic waste (coffee grounds, straw, sawdust, and egg cartons) to use as a substrate for cultivating mushrooms. This independent activity gave them an initial opportunity to reflect on the importance of reusing materials and working together towards a sustainable goal. 📊 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During the session, we introduced #Pbits by POWAR STEAM one of the innovative tools from the project FoodSHIFT 2030. The P-Bit is a sensor box designed to measure and monitor temperature, humidity, and other environmental metrics, making it highly useful in educational settings like this. The students recorded data, applied the scientific method, and observed how the environment affects mushroom growth. This experience allowed them to connect scientific theory with a practical, relevant activity. Thanks to 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗿ó 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 and their dedicated teaching team for their commitment to this initiative. And to the students—thank you for your enthusiasm and creativity! 💡💪 We’re convinced that these small steps inspire big changes. #Sustainability #Education #EducationalInnovation #CircularEconomy #EducationalProject #PBit #MushroomCultivation #JoanMiróGranollers #EducationalCommunity #Foodshift Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Ciência Viva Fab Lab Barcelona Ellinogermaniki Agogi Ioannis Ioakeimidis Sofia Spolander Hanna Wieslander Katerina Riviou Carsten Meedom Dirk Wascher Aleksandra Jovanovic Gabriela Pérez Alvarez FoodSHIFT 2030

Many plant species around the world are at risk of extinction, for reasons as diverse as pollution, the destruction of their habitats or climate change. Crop plants are no exception, with seed diversity decreasing or even being lost in some regions of the world. But there is still hope: duplicates of seed samples from all over the world are being stored in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, in Norway, with the purpose of backup gene bank collections to secure the foundation of our future food supply. By increasing seed diversity, agriculture’s ability to adapt crop production to the climate, local growing conditions and consumers’ eating habits will also increase. #FoodShiftPathways #EducationForChange #ErasmusPlus #FAO #cropplants #climatechange #seedbaks #seeds Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Fab Lab Barcelona Ciência Viva Carsten Meedom FOODSHIFT Pathways Ellinogermaniki Agogi

Today we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity! Proclaimed by the United Nations and celebrated every year on May 22, this day commemorates the adoption of the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 22 May 1992 and provides a unique opportunity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year, the theme of Biodiversity Day is "Be part of the plan”, an ambitious masterplan to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, following a whole-of-society approach. You can also take action, by adding new healthy or local foods to your diet, reducing the consumption of meat and fish, choosing fresh produce from local markets and support bio-products, favoring products with fair trade certifications or eco-friendly labels, among many other actions!
