    ACCELERATING THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEXT GENERATION CELL SPACERS/THERMAL BARRIERS 🔋🔍 Cell Spacer/Thermal Barrier application requirements are challenging and evolving with new more stringent requirements in the search for zero thermal propagation performance. It is not one single job but multiple jobs that must be accomplished by the materials between the cells. This is made even more complex given the finite amount of space within the HVBE that must be efficiently used to address these multitude of requirements (mech, thermal, electrical, TRA…). Adding to the complexity is that these jobs are influenced by cell format, cell chemistry as well as overall battery energy storage system design for a given platform and vehicle. Working with stakeholders up and down the value chain, the global FE team supports accelerating the development of the next generation of functional thermal barriers for HVBE. Leveraging our deep global regulatory and technical requirements know-how and advanced material screening capabilities the team is able to evaluate performance against this complex array of validation requirements guiding the selection of the optimal thermal barrier solution for each application.   • Demonstrating how to disrupt the status quo with Megamolding Technology at the ENGEL & SABIC Battery Innovation Day! The collaborative approach to realizing the potential of thermoplastic intensive high voltage battery enclosures was on full display at this amazing event held at ENGEL’s Schwertberg and St Valentin facilities. This full day event hosted by ENGEL and SABIC kicked off with presentations from the hosts and collaborating partners and was followed by live demonstration of the automated injection Megamolding of an Organosheet Sandwiched STAMAX LGF PP High Voltage Battery Enclosure Cover. The presentation from Forward Engineering was led by our NA Managing Director Adam Halsband and HVBE Project Lead Engineer Sara Simon. Adam and Sara shared with attendees the roles of Simulation Driven Design in the development, design, prototyping, production as well as subsystem and full pack validation testing for this disruptive next generation thermoplastic intensive HVBE.     𝐃𝐮𝐤𝐨𝐬𝐢 and Forward Engineering GmbH collaborated to create a smart battery enclosure with integrated antenna for a battery using the Dukosi Cell Monitoring System (DKCMS). This smart battery enclosure design combines the flexibility of Dukosi’s novel chip-on-cell technology with C-SynQ® and its robust single bus antenna, with Forward Engineering’s Simulation Driven Design and Production Based Engineering approach, and expertise in multi-material large battery system housing development.     Transforming Flax Fiber for Advanced Composite Reinforcement 🌿🔧 As industries explore greener alternatives, flax fiber emerges as a practical solution, combining sustainability with reliable performance. At Forward Engineering, we are excited about the potential of flax fiber in advanced composite reinforcements. This natural fiber significantly reduces environmental impact and enhances the mechanical properties of composites, making it a viable material for various engineering applications. While there are some limitations, they present opportunities for innovation in optimizing flax fibers for high-performance environments. Flax fiber’s lightweight nature, coupled with its impressive strength and stiffness, opens new possibilities in automotive, consumer goods, and even aerospace sectors. By integrating flax fiber into composite structures, we are driving innovations that align with eco-friendly mandates. Typical flax fiber reinforced composites are highly anisotropic and have around 70% higher specific tensile strength and only around 45% GWP (Global Warming Potential) of aluminum. Collaborating with industry partners our team is advancing flax fiber technology through rigorous research and development. We are exploring its potential across different matrices, optimizing processing techniques, and ensuring that these materials can meet the highest industry standards.     第22回学生フォーミュラ日本大会2024が開催されました。フォワード・エンジニアリング・ジャパンがスポンサーとして支援させていただいている京都工芸繊維大学Grandelfino、名古屋大学FEM、大阪大学OFRACの各チームの奮闘に感動しました!   卓越した技術力で注目を集めた Grandelfinoは、チーム初のカーボンモノコックボディで参戦。見事な走行を披露したことにより総合優勝し、三連覇を果たしました。 FEMは、フルエアロカーボンモノコックボディや4輪インホイールモーターを搭載した最新鋭のEV車両を開発し、総合2位を獲得しました。 OFRACは、走行中にトラブルに見舞われたものの、見事全種目を完走し記録を残すことができました。 Forward Engineeringのグローバルチームは、若いエンジニアたちの情熱と努力が未来の技術革新を牽引することを願って、これからも彼らの挑戦を応援し続けます。 #FormulaSAE #Engineering #Teamwork #Innovation #FutureEngineers

  • Breaking Down the Barriers to a Circular Automotive Economy Automotive industry suppliers are being challenged to deliver more sustainable products. Products that have a lower carbon footprint, enable lower carbon emissions throughout the products life, as well as products which can be recycled at vehicle end of life (ELV).
