Building the future powered by aluminum
About us
Found Energy is building rechargeable aluminum fuel power systems aimed at eliminating carbon emissions from heavy industrial applications ranging from industrial heating (7% of global CO2 emissions) to maritime shipping (3% of global CO2 emissions). Building off technology developed at MIT that enables metallic aluminum to split water, our energy delivery systems safely generate hydrogen and/or industrial heat on-site at >5x the volumetric energy density of liquid hydrogen, >3x that of methanol and ammonia, and >25x that of Li-ion batteries. By integrating storage, transport, and generation into a single package, our technology solves some of the biggest pain points in renewable energy transmission and storage. At Found Energy, we believe in securing a livable and equitable future for our planet, and we are looking for partners who are motivated by this goal to join us.

It was a pleasure and an honor to speak at the first Renewable Metal Fuels (ReMeF) conference, put on by REVEAL-STORAGE at OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. I was proud to share the rapid progress we have made at Found Energy in just 2.5 years. The conference was exceptionally stimulating and a great way to bring the small, but mighty, community together. I look forward to 10 years from now when the community is still mighty, but also filling out large conference centers. I am sure that day will come soon!

I've been thinking a lot about the implications of the aluminum tariffs lately. International trade is of course important, but maybe these tariffs will push us to prioritize American aluminum #recycling. The U.S. is currently the largest exporter of #aluminum scrap in the world - that’s a lot of valuable resources and #energy that could be enriching the country instead of leaving.

Reflections from the International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels today: 1. The opportunity is clear: There’s a massive need (estimated at >1,000 TWh in Europe alone) for economical, practical energy storage. Abundant metals like aluminum and iron hold a unique potential to answer this need by providing chemical storage of clean energy - in a denser form than traditional hydrocarbon fuel. 2. While metal-enabled renewable energy cycles are cutting edge, we can also understand them within the broader framework of power-to-X technologies. Michel Haller eloquently pointed out that energy carriers come with their disadvantages: hydrogen (low density, leakage), carbon-based molecules (where does that carbon go?), and ammonia (toxicity). Metal fuels are free of these challenges, offering a clean, non-toxic, and in many cases, practical approach to storing energy chemically. Many of these technologies are still developing and we will see more and more real-world application in the coming years. It was lovely to connect with so many people working in metal fuel - find us as the point of the "M" in ReMeF (Renewable Metal Fuels)! REVEAL-STORAGE #aluminumtoenergy #energystorage #metalfuel

We need to invest in domestic energy solutions that reduce U.S. reliance on imports. That means adding new fuel sources to diversify our energy mix beyond domestic gas and oil. Innovative technologies—like Found Energy’s aluminum-based energy system—are critical and have the potential to do more than just decrease our dependence on foreign fuel. They could reinvigorate American industry and even position the U.S. as a leader in energy exports once again. Now is the time to lean into these solutions. https://lnkd.in/e-DDrCzV
