Founder @ Aypex Inc. | Don't just do better, be better.

I guess LinkedIn isn't a huge fan of links to outside sites so trying an article this time instead of a regular post. While tangentially related to what Aypex does, it's pretty interesting to learn about why we siloed approaches to human health in the first place. Some aspects make sense to an extent...others are just unfortunate consequences. By no means is the full article comprehensive, but it at least touches the surface. Here are three highlights from what we learned: 1.) Insurance companies historically justified limiting mental health coverage by claiming treatments were less "medically necessary" than physical treatments, creating a cycle where limited coverage led to less access, resulting in less data about treatment effectiveness, which was then used to justify continued coverage limitations. 2.) The World Health Organization (2022) reports that people with severe mental health conditions die 10-20 years earlier than the general population from preventable physical conditions, starkly illustrating the real human cost of treating mind and body as separate entities. 3.) Mental health providers are often forced to adopt medical terminology and efficiency standards in integrated settings (Mainstream Physical Health and Mental Health Combined), leading to the marginalization of therapeutic approaches that emphasize relationship-building, qualitative observations, and viewing patients as experts in their own experiences. #performance #health #leadership #healthcare #sportspsychology

🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟 After seven years of a deeply personal journey of transformation and conscious awareness, I’m thrilled to announce the release of my book, How to Catch a Turtle: An Introduction to Mindfulness. 🐢✨ This book is more than just words on a page—it’s a reflection of the practices, lessons, and moments that have shaped my life. It’s an invitation to slow down, embrace the present, and discover the extraordinary in the everyday. Why This Book Matters in 2025 This year, more than ever, we are navigating a world that demands our attention in a thousand different ways. How to Catch a Turtle is a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and find balance amidst the chaos. It’s not about capturing something elusive but about creating space for mindfulness and the journey of self-discovery. Mindfulness has changed my life—helping me find clarity, purpose, and the ability to navigate life’s transitions with greater peace. This book is for anyone ready to start that journey toward a more mindful and intentional way of living. Why Now? During my mindfulness studies and meditation, I realized something profound: “I had become something to everyone and nothing to myself.” This awakening was life-changing. It reminded me to stop running on autopilot, to reflect, and to reconnect with who I truly am. How to Catch a Turtle is about helping others find themselves, too—because when we pause, we rediscover the parts of ourselves we’ve forgotten. If you feel like you’ve lost yourself in the busyness of life, this book is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and begin your journey back to you. About Me I’m an entrepreneur, ordained minister, certified mindfulness MBSR corporate facilitator, and positive neuroplasticity trainer. Building and growing businesses has been an incredible experience, but it also taught me the importance of looking inward to find balance amidst external challenges. I’m also honored to share that a portion of the proceeds from this book will support two incredible causes: • Miles 4 Matthew: An organization dedicated to supporting families navigating the challenges of pediatric cancer by empower families with hope, strength, and practical assistance during their journey. Manuel Gallardo • Transformation Life Center Nashville: A program focused on cultivating future leaders through education, leadership development, and health and wellness initiatives. Demetrius Short 📖 Available now at https://lnkd.in/gwEr5PSm Let’s start this journey together. Share your thoughts on mindfulness. Special thanks to Rick Hanson and notable teachers Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Eckhard Tolle whom I’ve studied under and learned so much from and Sandy Abrams (Breath and Mindset Experiences) feedback and constant reminder to breathe. #Mindfulness #HowToCatchATurtle #NewBookRelease #PersonalGrowth #SelfAwareness #Transformation #MindfulLiving #AuthorLife 🐢✨
