Last week we had the honor of sponsoring the annual Best of Chesapeake Awards and Holiday Party, hosted by the Association for Commuter Transportation's (ACT) Chesapeake Chapter. This event recognizes the chapter's members for their contributions to #TDM (Transportation Demand Management). A big congratulations to our team members at goDCgo for winning the Best Community Event Award for their travel trainings aiming to educate Washington, DC residents on the sustainable transportation options available to them throughout the city. We would also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our client Stacey King of Maryland Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Commuter Choice Maryland program for winning TDM Professional of the Year. Her efforts were instrumental in helping Baltimore keep moving after the Key Bridge collapse. Samantha Huff Nikki Trasmonte

The ultimate transit cheat sheet? Stylized maps! By simplifying layouts, using bold colors, and using predictable shapes for route identification, these maps turn transit networks into clear, user-friendly visuals that answer the big questions like: Where can I go? How often does service run? At Foursquare ITP, our Design and Visualization (DAV) team creates these visuals to help explain complex service plans and help riders and potential riders understand proposed changes. https://lnkd.in/exJ29tXT. #StylizedMaps #Design #Visualization

How does sustainable transportation fit into urban spaces? Spatial illustrations and renderings bridge the gap between planning and reality, showing how people, streetscapes, and traffic will interact with features like bike lanes, bus stops, dedicated busways, or rail lines. These #2D and #3D visuals, created by our Design and Visualization (DAV) team, make potential changes to urban design easier to grasp by illustrating how transit and mobility infrastructure shape—and are shaped by—our built environment. Happy #NationalGISDay! GIS plays a role in nearly every project we work on at Foursquare ITP. In addition to facilitating planning conversations and decisions amongst our team, GIS provide a means of sharing this data and the insights they generate with stakeholders and the public. For instance, building on an analysis of high-capacity transit accessibility performed for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), we developed a website that allows visitors to interactively explore analyses and their findings: https://lnkd.in/ebT_Sp7d.

At Foursquare ITP, we love data—but sometimes, it takes an infographic to make it shine! Infographics turn ridership trends, demographics, and performance data into clear, compelling visuals that cut through the complexity and bring stories to life. Our Design and Visualization (DAV) team uses infographics on a broad array of projects to transform transit data into visuals that help convey the meaning in our work. Have you ever run across transit words like “fixed route,” “below grade,” or “farside” and wondered what they mean—or how a member of the community would understand? Why use technical jargon when illustrations can be a better way to convey what a thousand words can’t? At Foursquare ITP, we’re always exploring ways to replace or clarify technical terms with a combination of infographics, spatial illustrations, and stylized maps. Our blog this month explains exactly how we make the "aha!" moment in transit projects happen: https://lnkd.in/exJ29tXT.

Last up in this week's mini-series on bus network redesigns is our work in Boston with MBTA on their Bus Network Redesign Implementation. As MBTA expanded and upgraded their entire network, our team identified essential passenger facilities, terminal locations, and high-ridership stops that needed infrastructure updates to support the new system. Using our #GTFS tools, we analyzed the new network to predict key transfer points, improve capacity, and ensure smooth operations at major facilities. We also led an essential restroom access analysis for operators at layover points (https://lnkd.in/evqdMupP). This work will ensure the MBTA’s redesigned network, which will greatly increase service across the region, meets the needs of riders and operators. Stay tuned for the next part of our redesign mini-series in December! #BusNetworkRedesign #Implementation #MBTA
