Hear from our founder, Kelly McLaughlin, about why From Scratch Fundraising exists. (And also how we got such a delicious name.)
I got into fundraising young. Like five-years-old young. I was watching a news story about refugees, and I turned to my mom and said "how do I help?" My mom told me I could bake some cookies and sell them in our front yard, and then donate the money I earned to a local refugee aid nonprofit. So I did. I probably raised $20-50, but the team at the nonprofit were so grateful, it felt like I'd saved the world. I got an early life lesson that fundraising makes a difference. Every professional job I've held has been in fundraising, from cushy and well-resourced to do-it-yourself and scrappy. Those experiences all took me to where I am today: running 🧁 From Scratch Fundraising 🍪 (see what I did there?). I started this business to knock down walls, to rip open gates. Nonprofits all need money…but only a few know how to get that money. To me, that’s unacceptable. Fundraising expertise is gate-kept. From the scarcity mindset making nonprofits scared to share what works with one another, fearing they'll "create competition" to institutional funders who don’t understand the importance of capacity building. We offer do-it-yourself, done with you, and done for you programs to keep our pricing fair, scalable, and accessible to nonprofits. Learn more about them at our website:
