❤️💜💙 #CHDAwareness The last day before Heart Day. "Hudson will need to have more surgeries as he grows. The conduit for his pulmonary valve will have to be replaced as he grows. It will most likely be open heart surgery, but medicine is improving every day and by the time Hudson is ready for another procedure it might not have to be so invasive. Right now, we are just enjoying life together and doing things as a family of 4. Hudson most likely will not need any further surgeries for the next several years. Doctors are estimating between 7 years-10 years old for his next surgery. CHD doesn't stop these kids, they are brave and so incredibly strong. We're so thankful for our son." -From Hudsons mother.- Sometimes life is quite crazy and stressful having a heart baby. As Hudsons mother States, "...especially around the time of surgeries or when he gets sick. There is always a chance of illnesses effecting his heart.   Stress is also very high during his healing process and watching your baby lay there will all the tubes and IV's. ❤💙💜 #CHDawareness Day 6 of 7 "Having a child with CHD turned our worlds upside down. Hudson was delivered at 35 weeks because I was so sick with preeclampsia. My kidneys were shutting down and I had a lot of medical things I was working through while trying to bring this new baby into the world. Once Hudson was born, we spent the next several hours together getting to know each other. I had no idea that anything was wrong with him. He was doing really well. In the middle of the night leading up to March 4, 2022, Hudson was taken into the nursery for his hearing test. My husband and I took that opportunity to get some sleep. Around 5am that morning, our room was filled with doctors, nurses, and Riley lifeline staff allowing us a few minutes to say bye to our little baby. My husband quickly gathered his things and drove to Riley to be with our son. Neither one of us wanted him to be alone. I wasn't able to be discharged yet so I had to stay and heal so I could be with our newborn. For the next month, my husband and I took turns being with Hudson and coming home to be with our daughter, Bailey. At the time I remember not knowing how we were going to get through all of this and was unsure of how our lives were going to change. We literally took it day by day. I remember going to sleep each night thinking to myself "okay, we've all made it through this day." We did a lot of praying and I mean A LOT of praying. ❤💙💜 #CHDawareness Day 5 of 7 There are many medications that are used for those with CHD. Some to reduce excess fluid in the body, some to help stop narrowing of the blood vessels, others to reduce blood clotting, and more that regulate the heartbeat. During a stay at the hospital for open heart surgery any of those may be used and continued after being released. Some children have more medications they take after being released and some have none. Hudson currently, "takes aspirin daily. [5]Infants with critical heart defects generally need surgery or other procedures in their first year of life... Heart defects are a leading cause of birth defect-associated infant illness and death.[5] Infant deaths due to heart defects often occur when the baby is younger than 28 days old. The first 28 days of life is sometimes called the neonatal period. In a study of neonatal deaths, 4.2% of all neonatal deaths were due to a heart defect.[10]" https://lnkd.in/gGeq7UbY Heart babies often have extensive hospital stays. Hudson Tinkle "spent the first month of his life at Riley. He was discharged just days before he was a month old. Since then we have had multiple Riley stays."
