We engage the food security community to share knowledge and resources to support the world's most vulnerable.

About us

Since 2012, the Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Network has been a global community where food security practitioners can access and share resources, events, and opportunities as they work to improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable. Funded by USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), the FSN Network is designed for a variety of food security stakeholders. The FSN Network is not only for implementers of USAID-funded emergency and non-emergency programs but it is also for donors, researchers, governments, private sector actors, among others. We work to engage stakeholders on topics such as agriculture, alternative livelihoods, WASH, monitoring and evaluation, and much more. 📄 🌍 Introducing the IDEAL Resource Guide We are pleased to present the IDEAL Resource Guide, a comprehensive collection of resources, tools, and insights developed over the last six years! This guide captures the essence of IDEAL’s learning and knowledge-sharing efforts, featuring technical toolkits, research, case studies, webinar recordings, online courses, and key takeaways from events. It is structured around IDEAL's workstreams of monitoring & evaluation, adaptive management, humanitarian-development-peace coherence, as well as cross-cutting and legacy focus areas. While these materials were developed with BHA partners in mind, most will be useful to the broader food security and nutrition community. This week marked a significant milestone as IDEAL celebrated 6 impactful years with an inspiring in-person culmination event. The day was filled with reflections on our journey, sharing impactful lessons, and celebrating the collective progress in advancing food security and nutrition. Highlights included dynamic sessions, insightful panel discussions, and an engaging journey map gallery walk (complete with a quiz!) that brought IDEAL's achievements to life—spanning peer-to-peer learning, monitoring and evaluation, adaptive management, graduation programming, and the HDP nexus.   We extend thanks to USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, our incredible associate awards, and the entire food security and nutrition community for being the driving force behind this journey. Together, we embrace the opportunities ahead to deepen collaboration, spark innovation, and continue building resilience worldwide. Here’s to the next chapter of learning, growing, and making an impact—together. #FoodSecurity #Humanitarian #Resilience #Sustainability #InternationalDevelopment

As global food insecurity keeps worsening, learning from each other about what works in food security programming is all the more important. For the past 6 years, Save the Children US has successfully served as a convener of food security practitioners to facilitate cross-learning and collaborative problem-solving through the USAID-funded IDEAL initiative. Over the years, IDEAL has engaged more than 850 implementing partner organizations, with nearly 400 of those being local/national. In these discussions, any "competition" is set aside, and the focus is only on improving #foodsecurity and #resilience among the most vulnerable.   Thank you to everyone who has been part of the IDEAL journey. Together, we are making a very real difference for those who need it most.  USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Network #internationaldevelopment #humanitarian Kevin Brown Suzanne Ammari

Still riding the high of celebrating six years of IDEAL with 140 colleagues from 45 different organizations on Tuesday! I am grateful to USAID/BHA for being not just a donor, but a true partner which was exemplified by Kevin Brown's and Joan Whelan's kind remarks. It was wonderful to showcase the many resources, associate awards and small grants that have been generated by IDEAL over the years and to have dynamic discussions about peer-to-peer learning, the graduation approach, adaptive management, and data sharing for HDP Nexus. Reconnecting with former colleagues was the icing on the cake! Thanks to all of you who joined us and looking forward to other opportunities to collaborate and learn together to improve food security around the world! Honored to join Save the Children International and the Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Network to celebrate six impactful years of partnership via the Implementer-led Design, Evidence, Analysis and Learning (IDEAL) activity. “IDEAL helped shape and redirect how we, as practitioners, address and tackle the myriad of challenges affecting citizens and communities in crisis. IDEAL has been a contributing factor in helping to transform the way USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance implements programs; ensuring that our efforts and investments are meaningful, intentional, and consistent. Through peer-to-peer learning, and honest and authentic dialogue, IDEAL has been instrumental in strengthening USAID’s relationships and deep networks with our partners and the communities we support. Relationships built on trust and mutual understanding.” Again, congratulations and thank you!

Learning and Adaptive Management Advisor | Founder of The Learn Adapt Manage (LAM) Network - Empowering practitioners to drive sustainable change through M&E, Learning and Adaptive Management (CLA)

Joining a Peer Learning Community was one of my best decisions. I began my role as a Program Learning and Adaptive Management Specialist in 2020. From the beginning, I was fueled by a profound passion for the work ahead. I knew this was my chance to shift my focus from using M&E only for accountability to identifying ways to use it for learning and adaptive management. The vision was clear; I wanted to ensure we increased program effectiveness through learning and adaptive management. But I faced a challenge: How could I inspire my team members to see this vision and accept collaborating with me to ensure it comes true? IDEAL's Peer Learning Community filled this gap for me. In October 2020, I joined a group of peers navigating the same journey in their programs and organizations. I participated in nearly all the monthly meetings, co-created and tested tools, gained insights from my peers, and applied the lessons to my work. After nearly 4.5 years, I had the opportunity to reflect on how the Peer Learning Community has influenced my work.
