80% of mobile network power consumption originates in the RAN, of which RUs account for 50%. Cutting down RU power demand can significantly move the needle towards addressing the pressing need to improve network #EnergyEfficiency and sustainability overall. Fortunately, the #OpenRAN community is already on the case and the introduction of 5G provides excellent opportunities to realize power savings. Our white paper explains the importance of conserving power in 5G RAN and, with reference to specific and relevant aspects of #ORAN architecture, standards and control mechanisms, delves into the means by which power consumption can be reduced. The integration of #AI into future #RAN systems will be critical in delivering on #6G and optimizing network performance to achieve the highest ROI. AI within RAN proves to have several benefits such as optimizing network operation and increasing spectral efficiency. According to a recent survey conducted by Heavy Reading, over 65% of telecom professionals believed applying AI into the RAN would improve RAN performance, while 58% believed it would lead to cost optimized network operations. Which benefits do you expect from applying AI to the RAN? Read what CSPs are saying about AI applications in the RAN: https://lnkd.in/gNfBeESS #ORAN

Did you know the RAN accounts for roughly 80% of the power consumption in a mobile network? That’s why #EnergyEfficiency in #5G #OpenRAN is critical to cost control. Open RAN architecture provides built-in support for reducing power consumption in several areas, such as Advanced Sleep Mode (ASM) and dynamic resource control. Rob Hughes summarizes how O-RAN can enable lower power consumption in this blog: https://lnkd.in/gPJQJF-H #ORAN

Delaware, nicknamed “The First State”, has become the second state to have its #BEAD Program final proposal approved by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Delaware’s approval means that the state can now proceed toward network construction using its allocated BEAD funding to cover costs of making high-speed #broadband available throughout the state. The BEAD program helps bring affordable internet services to rural, underfunded areas, closing the #DigitalDivide.

The Dell'Oro Group recently predicted that optical networking demand is looking to increase in 2025 because of #AI demand. With the US Fiber industry topping another deployment record in 2024 and traffic for metro and #LongHaulNetworks expected to rise, the Fiber Broadband Association expects service provider #fiber and fiber-related equipment inventory to normalize. Additionally, the rise of AI is bringing more hyperscaler demand for data center interconnect. MOFN technology, where global service providers build dedicated private optical networks for cloud providers, is also gaining traction. To read more about optical fiber outlook, read this great article by Fierce Network: #DigitalTransformation
