Isaiah Clarke's reflections on working with Ice Hockey In Harlem: Volunteering with Ice Hockey in Harlem is incredibly meaningful to me because it gives me the opportunity to inspire, mentor, and support the next generation in ways that I wish I had growing up in NYC. Reflecting on my own experiences as a young person, I remember the challenges I faced and the lack of resources I had access to growing up in NYC. That’s why it’s so important for me to be an ally and resource for youth in similar situations today. This Year, I had the privilege of speaking at Ice Hockey in Harlem’s speaker series. Huge thanks to Malik Garvin and the IHIH team for the opportunity! I shared my personal story, the obstacles I’ve overcome, and how I navigated a path toward success. We talked about the importance of gaining awareness of resources, learning valuable skills, and discovering opportunities in the tech and professional world—areas they may not yet be familiar with. This type of work is a core part of my why, and I’m grateful to be able to give back in such a meaningful way.
