Did you know that this year, you can celebrate New Year twice? But how? These two islands are incredibly close, yet they couldn’t feel farther apart. Just 5 kilometers of sea separate them, and in winter, you can even walk across the frozen water to travel from one to the other. But here’s where things get fascinating. Imagine starting your journey at 10:00 a.m., expecting to reach the other island in about an hour. Yet, when you arrive, the clock shows a time that doesn’t make any sense. How is this possible? These islands sit on opposite sides of the International Date Line, creating a staggering 22-hour time difference. A short walk takes you not just to a new place but practically into a different day. These fascinating islands lie between America and Russia. That’s why these islands are called “Yesterday Island” (Little Diomede) and “Tomorrow Island” (Big Diomede). You can celebrate New Year on Big Diomede first, then hop to Little Diomede to celebrate it again!
