The US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, announces the successful completion of the F-35 Lightning II Fighter Alert Shelters at Truax Airfield, Wisconsin, for the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing.
Having recently taken on the F-35 mission, the 115th Fighter Wing brought the cutting-edge aircraft to Truax in September of this year, making them the second National Guard Unit to integrate the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter into their aircraft fleet. Recognizing the urgency of protecting these assets from impending winter weather, the completion of the aircraft shelter project was a crucial milestone. The Wisconsin Air National Guard Alert Mission continues to convert from F-16s to the new permanent assignment of F-35s at Truax Field for national defense mission capabilities.
Leading the charge on this project was Omaha District’s Benjamin Carlson from the Ft. McCoy Resident Office in Madison, Wisconsin, in conjunction with Lt. Col. Mike Dunlap, Commander, 115th Fighter Wing Civil Engineering Squadron. Carlson expressed his gratitude to the professional development team, stating, "To the PDT – thank you! Please know that you’ve made an impact with your continued support of the mission, and our skies are safer because of you."
The awarded contract for this project was granted to Conti Federal Services, with a total cost of approximately $22 million. This infrastructure enhancement ensures the safeguarding of the F-35 Lightning II aircraft stationed at Truax Airfield and contributes to the overall readiness and capability of the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing.
