The State Department Houston Energy Course, organized by the Energy Workforce & Technology Council, kicked off the August session this week with the participation of 30 students.   The program, held in Houston, is a week-long program focusing on exploring the energy industry and offers networking opportunities for participants.   Energy Workforce President Molly Determan delivered opening remarks and welcomed participants to the program. International Programs Chair Chris Berrie, Cat Oil & Gas, provided an industry overview, giving participants insight into the sector.   Participants also had the chance to tour Helmerich & Payne Galena Park—a huge thank you to International Programs committee member Jim Nowotny for hosting. As significant attention is being given to ways to sequester (store for the long-term) carbon dioxide (a major contributor to the greenhouse effect), it is therefore critical that there is a universal means to record the storable quantities by recognizing the maturity of the projects to be implemented and the confidence that can be placed in the estimated quantities to be sequestered. Join SPE Distinguished Lecturer Rawdon Seager, Technical Director at GaffneyCline™ energy advisory, as he discusses some of the ways in which carbon dioxide can be stored and provides a review of the CO2 Storage Resources Management System (SRMS) framework prepared by the Society of Petroleum Engineers to classify and categorize the storable quantities. Congratulations The Energy Council on a successful event at the Asia Pacific Energy Capital Assembly in Singapore 4-5 June 2024. GaffneyCline sponsored the event and provided two speakers: Andrew Duncan presented “Decommissioning Focus: Maturing & late-life assets in APAC regions: A roadmap for decommissioning technology” and Paulina Svoboda was the moderator for the session “Finance & Investment Focus Panel: Showcasing strong ESG strategies to secure finance”, the panelists being Susan Prior, Khan Yow, Tony Mathias, Colin Chen and Amandeep Singh Bedi.

GaffneyCline was honoured to provide some insights into Blue Hydrogen Projects during the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Workshop on May 19th 2024. Blue Hydrogen is Hydrogen produced mainly through natural gas reforming coupled with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Blue Hydrogen is one of the solutions to reduce CO2 emissions and benefits from using TRL-mature technologies and from being available and scalable now. This presentation complemented well the other presentations by Member Countries showing all the initiatives taken by GECF Members to develop cleaner technologies for Natural Gas, and to implement Methane Abatement solutions. Last week saw over 900 attendees from Alaska and worldwide participate in @GovDunleavy’s third Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in Anchorage. This year’s agenda dealt with such diverse topics as renewables, coal and gas combined with CCUS, DAC, micro nuclear reactors, all with a backdrop of rural electricity supply price pressures, dwindling Cook Inlet gas supplies, and growing demand for Alaska’s rich mineral resources. With over 20 years supporting clients in Alaska, GaffneyCline was honoured to be asked to support the conference with three panel discussions on CCUS and carbon offsets. Governor Dunleavy shared how landmark legislation recently passed by the Alaska Legislature will transform Alaska’s ability to capitalize on carbon storage capabilities and lower the cost of energy for Alaskans. #ASEC2024
