We were proud to participate in the January 22 grand opening of King Soopers at the Marketplace at Flying Horse in Colorado Springs, CO. This store will serve nearly 70,000 people within a five-mile radius—an addition the community has eagerly awaited for nearly a decade. This 118,000 sf store, nearly double the size of a typical 65,000 sf King Soopers, anchors a 123,000 sf retail center. Galloway’s civil engineering, architecture, survey, and traffic engineering teams have been involved with the development of the Marketplace at Flying Horse, providing overall infrastructure support and core and shell design for two 9,400 sf retail buildings. St. George, Utah has experienced a 10-percent population increase over the past four years, creating the need to provide adequate emergency response services to the residents of the Desert Canyons community. Galloway partnered with Watts Construction Inc to design and build a fire station that serves nearby developments while also supporting the nearby airport’s fire station. The station includes additional space to meet new equipment standards, and the height of the training tower was modified to adhere to the Federal Aviation requirements because of airport’s proximity. Fire Station 10 will help serve (along with nine other stations) more than 104,000 residents within 78 square miles, and Galloway is proud to be part of this important development.
