The fight about smoking in Atlantic City casinos has grown more intense. Some people who stand up for workers say Local 54 of the UNITE HERE! union takes the side of tobacco companies instead of looking out for employees. This smoking debate reached a peak on Monday when Ray Jensen, the assistant director of United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9 told everyone that Donna DeCaprio, who runs Local 54, should quit her job, as reported by the Associated Press. He said she was wrong to go against a plan to stop smoking in the casinos. He thinks she has not done enough to keep members safe from the dangers of breathing in other people’s smoke. Meanwhile, losses to casino gambling and sports betting are in the hundreds of millions on a monthly basis and billions annually. Late last month, the government in Australia laid aside gambling ad reforms ahead of a potentially early election. A new BBC study shows many popular mobile games in the UK do not inform players about loot boxes in their ads. This lack of honesty has raised concerns about keeping customers safe as people often compare these kinds of games to gambling and say they target those who are prone to addiction. The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has issued guidelines to game makers that oblige them to mention loot boxes in ads. However, only two out of the 45 top-earning mobile games on Google Play follow this rule. This rule-breaking has made experts and watchdog groups upset.
