Education Management

Using gaming/esports to improve education, by funding STEM, esports, helping teachers, and other programs in schools.

About us

The Gaming 4 Education Association will be using gaming and esports to create or help improve STEAM/STEM, esports, and other programs in schools around the US. Through the programs we fund, students will receive real world opportunities to improve their skills in many areas, including event planning and management, production, broadcasting, and other areas of technology, mathematics, science, engineering, and the arts. Our goal is to raise enough money to provide these programs at little to no cost to the schools or the students, while providing social experiences that students and parents will cherish, in esports/gaming, and eventually other areas. We are run in partnership with TCMB Entertainment LLC.

24 Colleges and 60+ teams in our inaugural semester for the Wisconsin Esports Conference - is beyond incredible! A pipe dream for years, worked on behind the scenes for the past 9 months, the WEC embodies the continual collaborative culture of the WI esports community and I could not be more proud. As always, special shout outs are in order. To our steering committee (Dylan, Aaron, Trace, Daniel, Brett, Ian, Joe, Austen), Commissioner Lewis Smith, creative agency Brandolier Creative/Brad Krawczyk, and the 20+ others who have come together to make this come to life (Jaxon, Patrick, David, Jesse), a million times thank you. The “why’s” behind this effort are straight forward: - As with anything the Milwaukee Esports Alliance gets behind, we hope to empower the WI esports community to have local options to get behind and participate in. - We’re seeking to create sustainable ecosystems, based on communities investing in the resources they’d like vs current models based on highly volatile funding mechanisms. - Provide useful resources, increased in-person play, compelling rivalries, and an overall enjoyable experience for our member institutions for years to come. The journey is in its infancy and there will be countless challenges ahead, but as they say - you can't run without walking first - and we took our first steps this past week. If you’d like to learn more about the WEC, a couple resources below to check out and of course if getting involved is of interest - we’d love to chat. *League Website: https://wec.leagueos.gg/ *League Overview: https://lnkd.in/gpnbkp3y *Email: WEC@mkeesports.com More to come!

While eagerly waiting for Esports Broadcasting to start up in late September/early October, I have stumbled upon something great.... A Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Time Trials Competition, created by the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations! Back in March 2024, myself and a colleague from Carthage College participated in a Wisconsin High School Esports Association Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2v2 Tournament. We signed up as free agents and won all of our matches. However, the high schools we faced ignited the spirit of competition. I was blessed to have an opportunity to showcase my talents in a video game that has immaculate sentimental value. At a time where I had just lost my Uncle, I needed something to keep me loose during a rough stretch of time. Participating in the tournament allowed me to be confident in my performance, increase team building skills, learn how to be patience with myself. For context, I've played the Mario Kart franchise alongside my family almost every night for the past 13 years. So I have dedicated experience towards this franchise. This level of experience became a deciding factor in forming a dynamic duo with my teammate, and winning the WIHSEA Mario Kart tournament last April. Fast forward to September 16, 2024, and there is a new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tournament to tackle. It involves the game mode; Time Trials. The objective is to reach the lowest time in a given race. The self-explanatory game mode highlights how beneficial esports competitions can improve adaptability, patience and most importantly, problem-solving. For NASEF's tournament, myself and one other person will be representing the Wisconsin High School Esports Association in this Mario Kart 8 Time Trials Competition! An 11 week worldwide competition welcoming all players. There will be eight week of regular season, followed by three weeks of playoffs. The goal of reaching the fastest times on a given track commence now until December. This will be another unique item that I can place on my shelf of esports involvement. I've already been working hard at setting PRs for Week 1's Sweet Sweet Mountain track. This mindset will be applicable for the next few weeks too. Animal Well, the secret-packed exploration game developed over seven years by Billy Basso, was a huge hit. The third-best reviewed game of the year and one of Steam's top 50 paid games for 2024. (324,285 sold on Steam as of last Thursday, Basso told me). But not everything about launch went as expected. Players found the game's secrets way faster than Basso thought they would. And, despite planning to never touch the game after launch, Basso patched it a number of times....though only in some very disciplined ways. We talked about the surprises that came after launch and just what might come next in my latest Game File newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eXNQqUZ8

GOOD JOB, VIDEO GAMES! - Week 2 Each week I will post an article about something wonderful in the games industry, how video games are being used in awesome ways, etc. This week, building on the back of the Tetris discussions from last week, check out how researchers at Northwestern University's McCormic School of Engineering are using video games to teach materials science. Specifically, team members there created a game called Tetrice that is a a Tetris style game played on a 3D grid, that helps people visualize concepts in freeze-cast processing and microstructure relationships. They found that “The game format is a really fantastic way to communicate the general concepts without being overly complex or overpowering.” Read more about their approach in the article below, or try Tetrice out for yourself right here: https://lnkd.in/ednFgQNS https://lnkd.in/erGGPCXE
