Day 2 of our Nashville retreat began with a breathing exercise with Kacey Cardin, PCC. And from there the experience was nothing short of transformative. Kacey, a leadership coach with a gift for breaking through barriers to create soul-filled leaders, led us through a journey where we laughed, we cried, and connected with on a whole new level. We learned more about each other than ever before, strengthening our bonds and reigniting our energy as a team. Being entirely remote, this is an integral part of our retreat, so when we are apart through the year, we can channel these moments to feel connected and aligned. This experience has left Garden Media stronger, more aligned, and more inspired. Thank you, Kacey, for helping us bring our best selves forward! Besides a home cooked meal at your colleagues house (yes we had that, thank you Becky Paxton and and May), the second best way to kick off our Nashville retreat was the privilege of learning from Olivia Smith at Write a New Story, LLC Olivia was a fantastic leader and teacher. She guided us through the principles of DISC, coached us through our own profiles, and helped us learn how to be better teammates, partners, and friends. We were one of her only teams to almost accurately guess what we were — talk about self-awareness! 🙌 The DISC assessment is a behavioral profiling tool that categorizes individuals into four main personality types: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness, to help improve communication and teamwork. In true PR fashion, our team is filled with high "I"s (no surprise there!), we’re one of the few teams Olivia has worked with to have so many. It was an incredible experience, and I highly recommend Olivia for anyone looking to dive into personal and team development. Great first session with an incredible team. When The Sill opened its doors in 2014, houseplants were just starting to gain popularity, in part due to the O2 For You campaign by Costa Farms - and led by advocates like Marta Maria Garcia, Suzi McCoy Shriner, Stacey Pierson Silvers. They were pioneers in promoting the benefits of houseplants. I’m proud to say that 15 years later, we continue to lead the way in making plants accessible to those who want them, whether through physical stores or online, all at affordable prices. What began as a trend has now evolved into a movement. As I shared with Sandra Garcia in this recent New York Times article, Gen Z views plants not just as decorative items but as essential elements of everyday decor, just like a lamp or a pillow.
