Dear Gardener, Like so many other words, "solstice" has Latin origins; it's a combination of "sol," meaning sun, and "sistere," meaning to stand still. On winter solstice, the sun gives an impression of pausing in its trajectory as Earth tilts farthest away—resulting in the shortest day of the year and the gradual lengthening that follows. As gardeners, our lives teem with movement, change, and activity: microbes dance in the soil; seeds germinate; pollinators fly; fruit grows heavy; and we try to keep up with all of the sounds, scents, and splendors as best we can—but come winter, many of us are due to join the sun in taking a pause before setting course once again. Stillness facilitates enjoyment, reflection, and appreciation. It makes space for lessons from the past to become plans for the future. And it gives our bodies time to rest before another busy season. At Gardener's Supply, we're reflecting on our decades-long history and ensuring our systems, staff, and brand are refreshed and ready to ring in a whole new year of gardening. We're so thankful for our customers, and we're transforming lessons from 2024 into what we intend to be an exceptional customer experience in 2025. And, we're celebrating a special anniversary: 15 years ago on Dec. 21, 2009, Gardener's Supply became 100% employee-owned. This means that we employees earn stock and share in company profits, but more importantly it means we: ☀️care deeply about our customers and their successes in the garden; ☀️sustain a vibrant focus on gardening; ☀️support a strong social mission; ☀️take care of our communities and one another; ☀️and work hard to safeguard the increasingly fragile planet we've been entrusted with. As we continually work to better serve gardeners around the nation, these values-based roots keep us grounded. They shine like a beacon through the darkness, lighting the way to a brand new planting season. The promise of sunshine, food, and flowers beckons—and our patient fortitude through winter, our pause for rest and reflection, and our ensuing thoughtful preparations will make them all the sweeter. It's been a tough year. For all the upsides new systems offer, there are always hurdles, and we hit a lot of them. But now, thanks to those systems, we are able to offer impacted customers a specific-to-them offer to try and regain their trust. We are grateful for customers like Lindsey who not only understand the struggles and work to overcome these issues, but also our heartfelt apology to all our customers who support our local, employee owned company! ❤️

It was an honor to host U.S. Congresswoman Becca Balint at SERAC, our manufacturing arm based right here in Vermont! Based up the road from our distribution center, SERAC manufactures our Gardener's line of cedar raised beds, many of our premium grow lights, and a host of other products. Thank you to Becca and everyone else who supports local businesses and local manufacturing. It's a unique strength that helps make us who we are, but we couldn't do it without all of you!
