  • 💜 March is Bisexual Health Awareness Month! 💜 Did you know that bisexual+ people (bi, pan, fluid, queer, and other non-monosexual identities) make up a large portion of LGBTQ+ communities in the U.S.? Yet, they're often left behind when it comes to health care, research, and resources. Bisexual+ people frequently experience high rates of depression, anxiety, substance use, and even chronic health conditions like heart disease—but they receive only a tiny fraction of LGBTQ+ funding and services.* So, how do we change this? We push for better research, demand more funding for bisexual+ organizations, and call out biphobia when we see it. Health equity for bisexual+ people starts with visibility, advocacy, and action. • CeCe McDonald should have been protected—but instead, she was punished. In 2011, she was attacked in a gender-based assault. Forced to defend herself, she survived—but the legal system failed her. CeCe was sentenced to 19 months in a men’s prison, a reality too many Black trans women face. Her case ignited a movement, drawing support from activists like Laverne Cox, who produced FREE CeCe! to shine a light on the violence trans women of color face every day. • Marlon Riggs turned film into a revolution. 🎥🔥 Black, gay, and unapologetically bold, he used documentaries like Ethnic Notions and Tongues Untied to shatter stereotypes and amplify Black LGBTQ+ voices. Even when his work sparked controversy, Riggs never backed down—because telling the truth was more important. This Black History Month, we honor his fearless storytelling and the power of seeing ourselves on screen. Learn more at nmaahc.si.edu/marlon-riggs. • Feb 24, 2025 Rainbow Rundown! 🌈✨ ✨ Women’s History Month starts on March 1, and it’s well-past time to give women and femmes the credit history often didn’t. From leading movements to making groundbreaking discoveries, their impact is everywhere. Research and funding need to catch up, but one thing’s clear: your health matters. ⚖️ Feb 28 is HIV Is Not a Crime Awareness Day. Over 30 states still criminalize people for living with HIV. These outdated laws fuel stigma, not safety. Know your status—The Center offers free, confidential HIV/STI testing & PrEP navigation. • Barbara Smith didn't just challenge identity politics—she named it! As a Black lesbian feminist and co-founder of the Combahee River Collective, she put a spotlight on how race, gender, and sexuality shape oppression. She coined “identity politics,” calling out the gaps in both the feminist and civil rights movements. And with Kitchen Table Press, she made sure Black women—especially Black lesbians—had a platform. This Black History Month, we honor Smith’s legacy. Because the fight she started is far from over. 🖤🏳️🌈 Learn more at https://lnkd.in/enwiVhQk Media Description: “Celebrate Black History Month, February 2025, Barbara Smith.” The text opens a video with the colors of the Pan-African flag in the background and hands raised. • Sir Lady Java was unstoppable. 💃🏾✨ In the 1960s, she ruled L.A.’s nightclub scene—singing, dancing, and serving looks that defied every expectation. But when the LAPD tried to silence her with “Rule Number 9,” banning cross-dressing, she fought back. Teaming up with the ACLU, she challenged the law, setting the stage for future LGBTQ+ activism. This Black History Month, we celebrate Sir Lady Java’s fearless legacy. Because breaking the rules sometimes means making history. • Pauli Murray was always ahead of their time. A legal powerhouse, feminist trailblazer, and civil rights activist, Murray coined the term “Jane Crow” to call out the double burden of racism and sexism. Their legal work helped shape major civil rights cases, and in 1977, they made history—again—as the first Black woman ordained as an Episcopal priest. This Black History Month, we honor Murray’s relentless fight for justice. Their legacy still pushes us forward. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gKc3rW6m.
