At the Healthcare Design Conference and Expo Michael Lied and Kirsten Miller presented, Integration & Strategy: Improving Patient & Staff Satisfaction Through Regional Oncology Solutions with Mark Witte, vice president of clinical service lines at TriHealth. Their presentation shared how TriHealth developed a regional oncology strategy across eight new community cancer care locations to grow from their existing sites. Our work on the Cardiac Catheterization Prep and Recovery spaces at TriHealth’s Bethesda North Hospital was recognized with a Gold Award from Healthcare Design Magazine in the Remodel/Renovation Category. The jury loved how calm, modern, and streamlined the renovated space feels. This juror’s comment sums up their appreciation for our work: “Graphics, wayfinding, and lighting are cohesive with the overall design and make a huge impact in a warm and welcoming experience. The design team absolutely met the goal of improved access, family support, and features for increased staff collaboration and retention. The team’s incorporation of the mesh pattern of heart stents shows a level of respect and understanding of what actually happens in that space. Within a hub of population and economic growth, the new Kings Mills Hospital brings both inpatient and outpatient care to the community of Mason, just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. At 200,000 sf, the project put to the test the limits Bon Secours Mercy Health's new standardized, scalable, facility design template for ambulatory care, which we helped create. In the The Cincinnati Enquirer today is great overview of TriHealth's Good Samaritan Hospital West Tower by Sydney Franklin. The project, which recently broke ground, will consolidate departments that are currently spread throughout the campus. At the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) annual conference, GBBN's Shan Jiang, Stephen Mrdjenovich, and Zahra Daneshvar shared preliminary insights from a pre-occupancy evaluation of an existing campus dining facility, titled, "Nourishing Belonging: Exploring the Campus Dining Experience on College Students’ Sense of Belonging." The data collected from this evaluation is informing the renovation we’ll be doing at this facility, located on a Pennsylvania campus. The team will be sharing final data once the renovation and post-occupancy study are complete. We know from existing research that student persistence and success are driven by their sense of engagement and belonging. As a critical access hospital, Margaret Mary Health improves access to healthcare for people throughout the rural communities it serves. They are employing a bold approach to resilient, rural healthcare with the design of a $115 million replacement community hospital in Batesville, Indiana. Once complete, the 125,000 sf facility will be the state’s first all-electric hospital and one of the most energy-efficient hospitals in the nation. GBBN's Mickey LeRoy AIA, ACHA recently had the opportunity to share the sustainable design strategies that will improve facility operations and enhance health outcomes with attendees at two conferences: the HCD Healthcare Design Expo & Conference and the Midwest Healthcare Engineering Conference & Trade Show. My co-presenters from Margaret Mary Health, Danis, and CMTA, Inc., and I shared the project’s electrification, decarbonization, and resiliency strategies.
