More interesting findings from Northern Kane County Region 110's post- student tour survey: "91.7% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they have a positive perception of careers in manufacturing, engineering, technology, and trades." This statistic evolved from 64% of respondents who originally indicated limited knowledge of manufacturing & industrial careers. GCAMP was so thrilled to be a part of this event at ECC for District 300 students. The students were super inquisitive and interested in learning about career opportunities!
Nearly 100 students from all three high schools in D300 attend ECC's Apprenticeship Expo to learn more about opportunities available to them after they graduate. We cannot thank ECC, the industry partners and community organizations, and our school counselors enough who supported this event. #D300CareerReady #D300FutureReady #D300MyPlanMyGoalsMyFuture

Northern Kane County Region 110 hosted many #MFGMonth tours for students. Some interesting stats: "Before the tours, 64% of respondents reported limited knowledge of careers in manufacturing, engineering, technology, and trades. Post-tour, 77% of these students felt they had gained a solid understanding of the opportunities in these fields, and 70% said they would now consider pursuing a career in manufacturing, engineering, technology, or trades." GCAMP is a firm believer in the power of #studenttours. Providing students with hands-on opportunities to learn about the manufacturing industry is proven to increase interest in the field. The Wildstang Robotics Program recently hosted their Miss Makers workshop! The girls who attended got to participate in lots of hands-on STEM activities. GCAMP has historically supported the WildStang Robotics Program, and in October our board approved to once again support the team’s great work with a grant for 2025. The grant helps the team in their competitions and enables the program to hold events like the Miss Maker workshop (see attached photos). We are proud to continue supporting cool programs like this! Read more about the Miss Maker Workshop here: https://lnkd.in/ghXqPJvn Bonus: Spot the GCAMP logo on the Wildstang banner!

GCAMP was excited to go to Elgin Community College this morning. There, Joe McKeown presented a proclamation from the governor to ECC president Dr. Peggy Heinrich that proclaimed this week as National Apprenticeship Week. The theme for this year's celebration is "Celebrating 10 Years of Engagement, Expansion, and Innovation." Join us this week in recognizing the apprentices who are working hard to learn as well as the teachers, mentors, and administrators making their growth journey possible! #nationalapprenticeshipweek #growth

GCAMP gave free welding gloves and welding jackets, courtesy of Weldstar Gases & Welding Supplies to Eric Dieterich's Robot Rumble students for their extracurricular club at Hersey High School. Robot Rumble is an annual event, taking place in the spring. Student teams use welding and other metal fabrication processes, combined with electrical and mechanical skills to create robots armed with weapons and defensive armor. Teams then battle their robots against other teams. The last surviving robot wins. Students at Hersey High School are busy getting ready for the competition and putting their new welding gear to use! Thank you again to Weldstar for making this possible!! And good luck to Hersey High School in building your robots... we'll be rooting for you in the spring! #robotrumble #welding #donations

Happy National Apprenticeship Week!! How are you celebrating? Miguel Valdez is a West Aurora High School Weisner Center graduate and Waubonsee Community College student. He attended a high school manufacturing breakfast hosted by GCAMP & VALEES, where Greg Kouba from TOX® USA conducted a mock interview with him. This mock interview clearly paid off as he is now a TOX apprentice and beginning an amazing career in manufacturing! See what he has to say about his new experience in the picture below. GCAMP Friends: If you are recognizing any apprentices this week, feel free to tag us so we can hype them up some more! #nationalapprenticeshipweek #apprenticeships #students #careerready

While working at Eaton Corporation, Cara discovered a unique opportunity: a Machine Tool Technology Apprenticeship offered through ICC. The program was competitive with only a handful of candidates selected every few years. Despite the challenge and skepticism from coworkers about passing the required test, Cara saw an opportunity to shape her future. Determined to succeed, she became the first woman in Eaton’s history to apply. Out of 20 candidates, Cara was one of only two to pass the test, securing the apprenticeship—and making history as the company’s first female apprentice in the program.
"I plan to become a journeyman toolmaker, and I couldn’t have done that without the program at ICC." - Cara, ICC Apprentice ✨ While working at Eaton Corporation, Cara discovered a unique opportunity: a Machine Tool Technology Apprenticeship offered through ICC. Out of 20 candidates, Cara was one of only two to pass the test, securing the apprenticeship—and making history as the company’s first female apprentice in the program. Returning to school as an adult was intimidating, but the welcoming, supportive environment at ICC helped Cara overcome her concerns. Apprenticeship Coordinator Amanda Nordstrom provided essential support, helping her with everything from getting her student ID to buying books. Now, Cara often finds herself mentoring her younger classmates, paying forward the support she received. Check out Cara's full story here: https://lnkd.in/gvJ_E5CJ, and stay tuned all week as we highlight more students for #NationalApprenticeshipWeek! #NAW2024
