🎉 During the #WorldSpaceWeek, #GEOAcademy hosted an engaging workshop at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on #UrbanHeatIslands (#UHIs) and the application of #SatelliteImagery to identify and mitigate these areas. 🛰 ➡ Participants were introduced to the concept of UHIs and learned how to utilize satellite imagery to create maps highlighting regions susceptible to increased urban heat. The workshop emphasized the role of #NatureBasedSolutions (NBS) in alleviating the effects of UHIs. 📋 In a collaborative exercise, attendees formed teams, each assigned a map of a vulnerable area. Through an interactive card game, teams identified specific locations within their maps suitable for NBS interventions. They calculated the costs associated with their proposed solutions and visualized these interventions using stickers on the maps. 💡 This hands-on approach provided participants with practical insights into addressing urban #EnvironmentalChallenges through #innovative and sustainable methods.
