Meet Ukiaq a walrus calf- or “Uki” (pronounced oo-kee) for short! 💙 Earlier this year, Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) was alerted of a walrus calf in distress and in need of specialized round-the-clock care. Georgia Aquarium along with other marine conservation organizations, were eager to help. Join us in our commitment to helping Uki, an incredible ambassador for her species: https://bit.ly/3NF977G

Our hearts are heavy today that our founder and benefactor, Bernie Marcus has passed away. A lifelong philanthropist, Mr. Marcus was the driving force behind bringing the Western Hemisphere’s largest aquarium to life. Through his imagination and tenacity, he conceptualized and created Georgia Aquarium alongside leading experts in the fields of animal husbandry, animal health, and aquarium design. His passion in turn spurred the revitalization of downtown Atlanta into the booming hospitality and event epicenter it is today. What started as a gift back to the city that gave him so much, turned into a pathway for more than 40 million people to experience the wonders of our ocean. We are forever grateful to his vision, his generosity, and his determination. His legacy lives on through our mission to inspire awareness and preservation of aquatic species worldwide. Our hearts are with his wife, Billi, his children and grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him.

We recently helped our friends at Ryan Seacrest Foundation open their studios at the brand new Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital. We helped celebrate with plushies, toys, and books for patients to enjoy!

This brightly colored fish is a squarespot anthias. We've partnered with the Oceanic Institute and Hawaii Pacific University in order to successfully produce these fish through aquaculture! Even better, this was the first time this species was aquacultured at the Institute. This collaborative partnership will hopefully expand the Aquarium’s scope of work with tropical fish through aquaculture and create a more sustainable future.
