Members of our line teams joined hundreds of other workers and community members this week to honor the life of Eric Weems – a Griffin linemen who passed away tragically earlier this month. Being a part of the service was an important, and emotional, moment for our Jonesboro line crew- but they stated that “it was an honor to do what we could for him.” Georgia Power Lineman Jose noted that the experience reminded him that, “when we navigate through challenges, we want to make sure that we impact those around us in a positive manner.” While the crew member who passed was not a part of the Georgia Power crew, he was still a “brother in the industry” Jose said, making it an emotional moment that the crew was honored to be a part of. We asked Jose and his apprentice Frank how being a part of the service made them feel. They both stressed that this is a reminder to be “your brother’s keeper” and that “safety should never stop.” Frank, a UAL 2, noted that his training taught him to learn and follow the lead of his Journeymen crew leaders. He said, “When they work with safety first, I know that I am safe too since I am learning everything I can from them.” Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts, are with the family and friends of Eric Weems during this incredibly difficult time. And we also wish lineman Trent Granger a quick and full recovery.

It’s Official! 🥳 We are excited to share that the Mossy Branch Battery Facility is operational and serving Georgians! 🔌 ⚡   What is the Mossy Branch Battery Facility? 🔋 The Mossy Branch Battery Facility is a state-of-the-art 65-megawatt battery energy storage system. This facility is designed to enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide valuable insights into the operation and optimization of large-scale battery storage systems. ⚡   What does this mean for Georgians?  Battery storage can enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide economic and environmental benefits. 🛠️ As our Chairman and CEO Kim Greene states, “Battery energy storage is an example of a new technology that will make our grid more reliable and resilient every day, and especially during extreme weather events.”    How does this relate to Hydro and Solar Power? ☀️ 💧 Georgia Power is proud to serve Georgians with clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy. We use a diverse mix of energy sources including as hydro and solar power. While these sources are abundant, they come with a significant challenge: water levels fluctuate 🌧️, and the sun doesn't always shine ⛅ – which leads to fluctuations in energy supply.    Battery storage systems are designed to address this issue by storing excess energy generated during peak production times and releasing it when production is low👇, or demand is high👆. This capability promotes a steady and reliable supply of electricity, regardless of the variability in renewable energy generation! 🔋   Mossy Branch Battery Facility is just one of the many ways we are building the grid of the future in Georgia! 🔌 ⚡ For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/eaBfZjxQ

Georgia Power has been awarded more than $160 million in funding by the Department of Energy (DOE) through its Grid Deployment Office. As Georgia continues to grow, we are ensuring that customers have access to clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power, and actively pursued the funding available under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help reduce the costs of necessary investments for the benefit of customers.   Investments under the GRIP Program are intended to enhance grid flexibility, improve the resilience of the power system against extreme weather and ensure American communities have access to affordable, reliable electricity when and where they need it.    Projects funded by the grant will be varied and will benefit communities across Georgia. As Georgia Power continues to transition to cleaner forms of energy and transform its electric grid, investments in the state's transmission system – the high voltage power lines that transport electricity from generation sources to individual communities – are critical.   For more information visit https://lnkd.in/gxbDpT-u
