About us

Geothermal Rising (GR) is the largest and oldest geothermal membership organization in the world. GR serves to build community and empower the geothermal industry by aligning all geothermal technologies and applications. The heating, cooling, and electricity benefits from geothermal technologies come from geothermal/ground source heat pumps; direct use and thermal energy networks; drilling and rig operations; turbine manufacturing; and conventional hydrothermal, engineered/enhanced, closed-loop/advanced, and supercritical hot rock processes. GR is a nonprofit educational association, community organizer, and research organization. GR actively seeks to amplify its role as a primary professional and educational association for the international geothermal community and serve as a focal point for continuing professional development for its members and external audiences through its outreach, education, information transfer, and education services

  • You asked, we answered! ✅ At the request of Geothermal Rising members, GR will organize and curate geothermal content within Geothermal Hubs at non-geothermal events in 2025. This initiative builds on the success of GR’s efforts to bring geothermal content to oil and gas conferences. In 2025, GR seeks to bring awareness of geothermal technologies to renewable energy conferences as well. GR has negotiated “Geothermal Hubs hosted by Geothermal Rising” at the following events: CleanPower (Phoenix, AZ - May 2025) IMAGE (Houston, TX - August 2025) RE+ (Las Vegas, NV - September 2025) Objectives including leveraging the resources of the entire geothermal ecosystem in order to amplify and raise the profile of geothermal organizations, technologies, and applications to audiences outside of the geothermal industry. There will be stages within the Geothermal Hubs that GR members can purchase and present technology spotlights, host a panel, or deliver a presentation. If your company or organization is interested in purchasing a booth, table top, or technology spotlights within a Geothermal Hub hosted by Geothermal Rising at one of the events above, please contact Candi Calderone (candi@geothermal.org)!

  • 🔥 What's Hot! 🔥 ABB and Sage Geosystems Inc. recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the development of Geopressured Geothermal Systems (GGS) for energy storage and geothermal power generation. The Sage Geopressured Geothermal process involves injecting fluid into a man-made reservoir, where it is heated and then brought to the surface, passing through heat exchangers and turbines to generate electricity. This method offers reliable energy generation as well as energy storage solutions to complement intermittent sources like wind and solar. As part of this partnership, ABB will deploy its advanced automation, electrification, and digital technologies to enhance geothermal energy in three key areas. Read more here https://bit.ly/4i82ZSt

  • 🔥 What's Hot: Bipartisan Legislation to Promote Geothermal Reintroduced! U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) recently reintroduced the STEAM Act, their bipartisan, bicameral legislation to promote geothermal energy. Companion legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Susie Lee (D-Nev.-03) and Celeste Maloy (R-Utah-02) which would expedite geothermal exploration and development in previously studied or developed areas. “Nevada’s clean energy economy is spurring innovation and lowering energy costs for residents across the Silver State,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “My commonsense, bipartisan legislation will cut red tape, create good-paying jobs, and let communities take advantage of Nevada’s untapped geothermal potential.” “Unleashing the full potential of clean, reliable, baseload geothermal will help to bolster our energy independence and power our communities. The STEAM Act takes a step forward to remove unnecessary hurdles for geothermal exploration and cuts through the red tape slowing down deployment of geothermal technologies,” said Senator Murkowski. “I look forward to continuing to advocate for this legislation to help boost geothermal as a source of domestic energy.” The Streamlining Thermal Energy through Advanced Mechanisms (STEAM) Act would allow geothermal projects in previously developed or studied areas to bypass cumbersome, repetitive environmental impact studies, similar to the expedited review and permitting process for oil and gas development projects on land that has already gone through environmental studies.
