He left as a Territory Sales Rep to take on a larger Sales Director role at Sauz, a position we didn't have available at MALK. I couldn't be happier for him. Hello, world. Have you heard the good news? There’s a new tomato in town. If you don't think pasta sauce can change your life, it is clear you just haven't tried SAUZ yet. Born out of a "day-one" friendship (actually day one though, will share the baby pics in the comments) & a desire to shake up a pretty bland pasta sauce aisle, Winston Alfieri and Troy Bonde brought SAUZ to market to revolutionize the category. In less than two years of operation, SAUZ has become a dominant force -- expanding into roughly 5,000 stores with breakneck speed and velocity. So, what’s their "secret sauce?" Authenticity. According to Camryn Frederickson in a Q&A with Andrea Popova at CPGD (link in comments) Sauz is driven by its people-first ethos. As a young, lean team, they’ve made a point to put real faces behind the brand. And if you've met the team, you'd know it is an easy one to root for. The Adgile Media Group team has loved partnering with Winston Alfieri, Troy Bonde, Camryn Frederickson, Emily Pakula & the entire SAUZ to support their launch into Whole Foods Market and Target. The game has changed. The team has been sharpening its edge, crafting a roster built for dominant run this season. So -- without further ado -- the lineup that has been assembled to take down Big Tomato: 🌞🍋 Summer Lemon Marinara – Center Fielder (CF) The speedster of the team, zipping around the outfield with zesty agility. The SAUZ lineup is growing: two new flavors - Miso Garlic Marinara & our first-ever white sauce, Brown Butter & Sage Alfredo - exclusively at Whole Foods Market! We're doubling down on innovation in 2025, laser-focused on re-imagining the category as we know it by challenging long established norms. Pasta sauce is decades behind - the reality is that our set hasn't adapted to the rapidly evolving consumption habits of a new generation of shoppers. If I've learned anything over the past few years in CPG, it's been to maintain a constant obsession with consumer experience. Driving trial is a baby step, but building a retentive post-purchase flywheel is both critically important & immensely difficult. Our mantra from day one has simply been to "be memorable." It comes in many forms, so we focus on memorability across all verticals: When marketing the brand, we do things that break the mold of conventional wisdom, creating content that consumers would never expect a pasta sauce brand to produce. We obsess over minute details of physical product presentation (don't ask me how much our soft-touch labels cost). We iterate on taste & flavor daily, taking risks to reap reward with the consumer - we make things that consumers can't forget, leaving a permanent impression in mind & on palate. We are entirely driven by an obsessive focus on every ounce of interaction with the end consumer. Above all, we're fortunate to have the support of Whole Foods Market in bringing our crazy vision for the category to life. If you'd told us a year ago that we would have 5 flavors on-shelf in every single region of Whole Foods I'd have thought you were insane. Hard to describe just how surreal it feels.
