John Mulchaey, a distinguished scientist and dedicated leader with more than three decades of service to the organization, has been appointed Carnegie Science's 12th President. In this role, he will focus on strengthening Carnegie Science’s role as a leader in multidisciplinary research and innovation. "Carnegie Science’s legacy of discovery and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of human knowledge inspire me every day, as do the scientists and staff who devote their intellect and skills to elucidating the interlocking intricacies of life and our dynamic planet and revealing the wonders of the cosmos," he said. Astrobiología, geología y mineralogía son algunas de las disciplinas desarrolladas en Chile que pueden ser un aporte significativo a este proyecto internacional. La Ministra fue recibida por Bill Nelson, administrador de la NASA, y acompañada de Juan Gabriel Valdés, embajador de Chile en Estados Unidos, junto a otros funcionarios de Chile y del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos.

Now that one of the Giant Magellan’s 16-metric ton mirrors has been successfully integrated with a support system prototype, it will undergo performance and precision control testing at the University of Arizona Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab. https://lnkd.in/gDHYeff5

Inside our one-of-a-kind, 100-foot testing tower at the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab, ultra-precise lasers will measure how well the 160 actuators between the support structure and the mirror perform to keep the mirror's surface accurate to a millionth of an inch under the conditions it will experience mounted on the telescope in Chile. https://bit.ly/3NCU12d
