  • Helping hands, healing hearts. 🙌💓 The 1st Mitchell Girl Guides jumped into action when they saw the devastating impact recent flooding had on their community, particularly the Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue. They collected items to donate to support the rescue and volunteered their time helping out and learning how the rescue works.

  • Girl Guides are engineered for success! 👩🔬🔍 Empowering girls to navigate the STEM pipeline helps them make informed decisions about education and careers so they don’t limit their future pathways, Girl Guides have been sparking their imaginations with our Paper Circuit STEM Kits and learning to think like engineers. Thanks to General Motors we’re sending out thousands of free kits to girls across Canada to make light-up paper circuits and earn their Inventor Discovery badge. Giving girls the chance to try STEM activities like this one, allows them to experiment, explore their curiosity and develop their problem-solving skills – all of which can help create the next generation of innovators and change-makers.

    Semi-retired

After 38 years with Girl Guides of Canada, it is time to pass that torch to others to have the opportunities I have enjoyed in my various roles there. I am retiring from their employ as of December 31/24. It is really a semi retirement as I will be joining some other consultants to take on work within the not for profit & children's recreational camping realm. Stay tuned for details as this part of my next adventure rolls out!

  • Today we remember the 14 women whose lives were taken in an act of violence and misogyny on December 6, 1989 at École Polytechnique. On National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women we reaffirm our commitment to fight the hatred that led to this tragedy. We stand in solidarity with all gender-marginalized groups who continue to be disproportionately impacted by gender-based violence. And we remember: Geneviève Bergeron  Hélène Colgan  Nathalie Croteau  Barbara Daigneault  Anne-Marie Edward  Maud Haviernick  Maryse Laganière  Maryse Leclair  Anne-Marie Lemay  Sonia Pelletier  Michèle Richard  Annie St-Arneault  Annie Turcotte  Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz  If you or someone you know is experiencing gender-based violence, help is available: https://lnkd.in/gqz38a9v

Illuminate 2024 Conference in St. John’s 🚀 I had the privilege of attending the NL Council’s event earlier this month and got to reach for the stars 🌟! ️ Friday night kicked off with a traditional Inuit Throat Singing performance and keynote presentation from aspiring astronaut Bethany Downer. Saturday was full of sessions including: Darken Horizons, Crafting Cosmetic Lanyards, Wonderbolt Circus, Peaceful Purpose & Self Guided Activities (Signal Hill). We ended the evening with dinner and getting to connect with so many other Guiders!! We had a Drag Queen come and showcase 3 performances. After, the closing ceremonies celebrated how successful the conference had been!! The planning team truly hit it out of this world 🌎!! Girl Guides of Canada & Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council 💙

Whether is was learning how to handle sharp knives and fire 🔥 from a young age 😲 , leading my peers at a camp or planning international adventures, my time in Girl Guides of Canada immensely shaped the leader I am today. If you know of a girl or teen that could benefit from a boost of confidence in an inclusive and safe space, it's not too late to find a unit for 2024-2025. Many units still have space.
