Let's define a VC Term: SAFEs! SAFEs are a type of financial tool that allow investors to provide funding to a startup in exchange for the right to convert that funding into equity when a specific event occurs, most notably a future priced round or an acquisition. While SAFEs generally support founders, they have elements that attempt to protect investors or ensure that they get better deals, for example: - A valuation cap, or the maximum valuation at which investors’ shares will be converted. - A discount, which offers investors a set percentage reduction in the company’s future valuation. - An MFN (Most Favored Nation) clause, which guarantees investors the same or better terms that are offered to investors in future deals. SAFEs do not have all three of these elements at once. They can have: (a) a cap and no discount, (b) a discount and no cap, (c) a discount and a cap, or (d) just an MFN. Since they were introduced by YCombinator in 2013, SAFEs have become increasingly popular in the startup world. SAFEs are most commonly used by startups when valuations are uncertain, such as in pre-seed or seed rounds, or when a quick, streamlined process of raising funds is demanded by their situation. ***DISCLAIMER: This post is not intended to express political affiliations for or against Donald Trump.*** How will another Trump term affect female-owned companies? The response to this question is generally mixed. On one hand, a number of investors in women-owned fashion and beauty businesses, including Andreessen Horowitz, have made contributions to Trump's campaign or pro-Trump political action committees, indicating their optimism that consumer goods sales could increase under the Trump administration. However, considering that Trump has previously diverted funds away from programs like the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (in 2019), some venture capitalists believe that his disregard for gender justice may create an adverse environment for female founders — one in which they receive a smaller percentage of total funding than they already do. How do you think Trump might affect women in venture capital? Let us know in the comments below!

Natalie is such an incredible voice for the next generation interested in breaking into venture capital. We had a great time getting to speak with her!

I was the 1st Founder Spotlight 💡 speaker for Girls Fund the World. Rasya Ramakrishnan is: 𝟭. 𝗜𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝟮. 𝗔𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗖 𝟯. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁💓 We met through Raysa's brother Ritvik Ramakrishnan, whom I met when volunteering for Meagan Loyst's VC 101 course, which had over 1000+ people. We had hopped on a call 📞 last year & I talked about my experience in VC. I was able to break 🧩 into VC within a year and 1/2 of learning about it. It is so important to support the next generation.⤵ I had rockstars in VC like Madison Mcllwain, Meagan Loyst and so many more who were willing to spare a couple of minutes to chat💬. And this was when I just learned about VC. 𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 + 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿📰& 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝟮.
