About us

Girls Leadership teaches girls how to exercise the power of their voice through programs grounded in social-emotional learning. We provide programs for girls, workshops for families, and professional development training for teachers, guidance counselors, and non-profit staff. We center gender and racial equity in our work to address the internal and external barriers to leadership development. Our work is structured around four central values: Authentic Communication, Courageous Growth, Equity, and Play. Girls includes anyone who identifies as a girl, as well as non-binary and gender expansive youth

  • Want young people to feel empowered to express all the aspects of their identities? The first step is understanding how you express your own. Join us on February 19 to explore how identity is shaped by culture, media, and more, and how in turn shapes how we show up for youth. Together, we’ll deepen our understanding of ourselves and each other, and use storytelling as a tool for self-advocacy. Connect identity to social and emotional learning (SEL) and understand how you can incorporate our lessons into your classroom, team, or community to support all youth. This training provides 30 lessons, spanning development from grades 6 to grade 12. https://ow.ly/th1s50UITeZ?

  • On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a Republican measure banning transgender girls and women from competing on school sports teams that match their gender identity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 3% of high school students identify as transgender. Fear and harassment are a terrible burden on young people, and also on the adults in their lives who support them. It’s hard to know what to do or how to help. Given how vital the role of community and chosen family is in mitigating trauma and anti-LGBTQ+ oppression among LGBTQ+ young people, here are some questions to guide your own reflection before talking with youth: • What do I think and believe about my role as an adult ally to LGBTQIA+ youth? • What do I want young people around me to learn by watching me in response to this moment? • What do I want to model for other parents, caretakers, and youth-serving professionals right now? • What support do I need from other adults right now to better prepare me to speak out? • What do I need to do to take care of myself while I show up for young people right now?
