Thank you to Anna Davidson, owner of Blackberry Market, for sharing your very inspirational story at our Women in Business Meeting on January 23rd on the topic of “Knowing When to Expand Your Business” and thank you to B.R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County for hosting our event. Anna’s love for food began at a very young age of 9. Anna grew up in Arkansas picking blackberries during the hot summer months 2 weeks out of the year and creating her signature blackberry jam that is beloved at Blackberry Market today! Anna’s career path did not begin in the food industry as she graduated from college with a degree in Education. She followed her dream for the love of food a few years later by taking the risk of purchasing the first Blackberry Market space in Glen Ellyn 12 years ago. After much research, Blackberry Market expanded into their 2nd location in La Grange in 2019. In 2022, Anna acquired a commercial kitchen space and then amazingly opened 2 locations in 2024 (Oakbrook and Naperville locations). We learned from Anna that it is important to “embrace your emotions” during this process, to be able to take risks, that much research is needed before considering expanding, and that it is very important to build valuable relationships throughout the process. Customers truly enjoy making daily trips to Blackberry Market, finding joy in the welcoming atmosphere, the delicious offerings, and the consistent sense of community. It has become a cherished part of their routine, where they can relax, connect, and savor everything that Blackberry Market has to offer. Our next WIB event will be an After Hours on February 27. New Chamber Award Category for the 61st Annual Glen Ellyn Community Awards! We are excited to announce a new award category for this year, "Green Business of the Year!" This new award recognizes businesses in our community that are taking steps to implement more sustainable practices into their product offerings and/or business operations. We recognize that going greener can be challenging and sometimes requires additional effort beyond the day-to-day of operating your business. Yet consumers are actively seeking businesses that incorporate additional sustainability measures. Therefore, any business making such efforts are encouraged to apply, so that sustainability measures big and small can be celebrated.
