Global Biodata Coalition
Biotechnology
The Global Biodata Coalition works for and with research funders to ensure sustained support for biodata resources.
About us
Life science data resources have become central to biomedical and life sciences research and applications. They are the largest, most frequently used and most essential infrastructure for the conduct of these sciences. At present there is no mechanism for funders to routinely and strategically coordinate their support of the data resources, putting at risk the health and well-being of this vital ecosystem. The result is both financial fragility but also uncoordinated investments, duplication and wasted effort. The Global Biodata Coalition is supported by research funders and aims to provide strategic coordination for the biodata resource infrastructure. Scientists, funders and industry will benefit. The GBC will: • Provide the first-ever meaningful coordination of data resources strategies and support • Reduce inefficiencies in the support of data resources and facilitate their long-term sustainability at the global level • Enhance sharing of expertise in the management of biomedical and life sciences data worldwide • Link national research data strategies across borders • Facilitate capacity building worldwide through the sharing of expertise and best practices • Promote development and adoption of standards for global data management
