We’re incredibly grateful to our dedicated Citizen Diplomats who volunteer their time and hospitality to support our mission—whether it’s by hosting fellows, offering home stays, or opening their homes to international visitors. 🌍✨ In a recent feature by Global Ties U.S., GTD Board Member Teresa Holderer shared her experience hosting a delegation of environmental leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) FHI 360 during the Fourth of July. Teresa’s heartfelt testimonial highlights the power of personal connections and the impact of citizen diplomacy. Over the last 10 days, I have witnessed an amazing desire amongst Moroccan 🇲🇦 youth and women in particular to be change makers, entrepreneurs and dreamers. YASSINE AAKAM worked with me at Plug and Play Detroit on entrepreneurship development. He sought our company out and we are so glad he did! Yassine is the founder of a B2B tech startup called iHub which is helping empower Moroccan companies with AI, warehouse management and inventory management software. I had the opportunity to travel back to Morocco as part of the U.S. Department of State Professional Fellows Program and represent Alisio and Plug and Play Tech Center in Morocco 🇲🇦 The Professional Fellows Program (PFP) is a two-way, global exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, as well as build lasting, sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States 🇺🇸. In Morocco 🇲🇦, there is an aura that goes far beyond the fragrances and aromas of the country’s souks and medinas. Moroccan youth and women in particular are eager to leave their mark, start new enterprises, and show the world that Morocco can compete with the best in the world. I really enjoyed the opportunity to watch Professor Ruben Cantu train leaders in public policy and product design thinking at the US Mission Morocco It was inspiring to see Association Anoual initiatives to train the next generation of STEM Women through DigiGirlz Morocco The entrepreneurial spirit in Marrakech was unique and the Emerging Business Factory in particular showed me that the business community wants to show up for entrepreneurs! In Marrakech we also had the opportunity to show the Amal women's training center how product management and design thinking could help them reorganize their NGO. I loved watching fellow Detroiter Kerry C. Duggan ensure that her professional fellow ASMAHAN AIT CHATTOU, a green tech entrepreneur, could connect with Moroccan Agribusiness experts Observing the contrast between public and private universities with Chaimae Bahi Slaoui, Ph.D. was really eye opening. Ruben Cantu and I left feeling that the next group of leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers may just come from Université Hassan II de Casablanca They have a bit of Detroit in them. The hustle, the grit, and that swagger that comes with being underestimated. To see so many young people pack a warm and humid university hall and stay behind to connect on LinkedIn, take photos and get advice about how to start up was truly inspiring! I am also thankful that U.S. Department of State US Mission Morocco Legacy International Amideast Morocco and Global Ties Detroit put Ruben, Kerry and I together. At Global Ties Detroit, we believe that global connections and cultural exchange are essential to building a more inclusive and understanding world. As part of #InternationalEducationWeek, we’re excited to celebrate the power of education to unite people, foster cross-cultural understanding, and open doors to new opportunities. Today, some of our team members—along with our current interns and alumni who’ve transitioned to staff—hosted an informational session at Wayne State University to raise awareness and recruit new interns. 🙌 Attendees learned about the impactful work we do at Global Ties Detroit and had some fun with a Global Trivia Kahoot game! 🎉 The Wayne State Office of International Programs also had a global trivia game, a map where attendees could share where they’re from and where they’ve traveled, plus refreshments to keep the energy high! 🌍✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us today! It’s all about connecting, learning, and creating a more globally-minded community.

On the first snow day of the season in Detroit, our amazing team members, Program Coordinator Charlotte Little and Communications Coordinator Brianna Ramsey, bundled up for a City Institute Detroit in Context Bus Tour! ❄️🚍 They explored historic neighborhoods like Sherwood Forest, Boston Edison, and Palmer Park, while also visiting iconic Detroit landmarks and learning about the city's rich history and vibrant local businesses. A huge thank you to Jeanette Pierce for guiding this incredible tour! 🙌 Our international fellows love learning more about Detroit through these tours, and now Charlotte and Brianna have had the chance to dive deeper into their own city.

Just wrapped up an incredible time in Rabat, Morocco. The warmth of the people, the richness of the food (Friday couscous!), scents, cups of tea, the cats lounging everywhere, the trees, the stunning coastline, and the deep history—it all has made a lasting impression. This journey reminded me to take the long view and to take time to learn from history. I am grateful for the perspective and the inspiration. Thank you, Legacy International, US Department of State & Amideast Morocco. #Rabat #Morocco #LongView #LearningFromHistory #Sustainability #Gratitude #ExchangeOurWorld #profellows
