GM³'s Appin Mines Rescue Team, the Pit Bulls, were runners-up in the 60th Australian Mines Rescue Competition held near Newcastle last week. The Appin Mines Rescue Team represented Southern Mines Rescue and competed against eight brigades from across the nation. Teams were evaluated on their technical abilities, collaboration, and communication as they tackled simulated scenarios, including hazard identification, underground search and rescue, first aid response, and firefighting. The team from Moranbah North won the competition, with Appin’s team finishing as runners-up and Springvale finishing third. Congratulations to team members Daniel Ward (Captain), John Nellestein, Trent Jelley, Martin Jackson, Tyler Stephen, Bobby Engel, Mark D'Arcangelo and Serge Kingi on their outstanding performance. These events are critically important to the industry, helping to ensure our response teams are equipped with the training and skills to respond in the unlikely event of an incident.

GM³ is pleased to confirm that today marks "Day 1" following the official handover of the Illawarra assets from South32. Following the transaction announcement in late February, all conditions have now been met and GM³ has assumed control and ownership of the assets. GM³ CEO Jason Economidis, who commences his role today, highlighted this milestone for the new metallurgical coal company. From Jason: "We are delighted the transaction is now complete and we can start to plan for the future. We know strong operational performance will underpin future opportunity. We are proud to be part of the Illawarra region and committed to supporting the region’s long-term future for our people, their families, and the broader community. I want to acknowledge everyone who has contributed to finalising this transaction and minimising impacts on the Appin and Dendrobium teams who have remained focussed on safe and reliable production in recent months. I would also like to acknowledge South32 for their stewardship of these assets and for their support of the GM³ purchase and transition. We are proud to be supplying essential metallurgical coal to our customers and we look forward to a bright future as coal miners."
