As the Fall 2024 academic semester comes to an end, I wanted to share how wonderful it was to serve as Practitioner in Residence of Georgetown University’s The Capitol Applied Learning Labs (CALL) Advancing Women’s Empowerment and Service (AWES) Fellowship. Directed by Abigail Sara Lewis, Ph.D. (with support from Anaiya Moore), this program was created to empower students interested in challenging the historical gender disparities across industries. During the fellowship, students participate in programming to expand their knowledge of women’s leadership and success in professional spheres and create impactive programming that responds to the issue of gender disparity. As their mentor, this semester we: - Met several times over dinner to discuss goals - Had professional headshots taken by the incredible Jaimee Freeman - Went to Go Ape USA, a zipline and adventure park, to test our limits as individuals and as a team - Had 1 on 1 resumes reviews - Visited the The White House - Fellows identified organizations they wanted to serve and coordinated volunteer events - Fellows created and hosted a networking event to bring together students and industry professionals It was an honor to meet and spend time with these incredible young women.
