We're one step closer to onshoring and decarbonizing the clean energy supply chain! ☀   We're pleased to announce our partnership with Genesis Alkali to source Wyoming-grown natural soda ash, an essential raw material that we will use to produce solar glass at our factory in Georgia.    Today the vast majority of imported solar glass is made with synthetically produced soda ash. But naturally produced soda ash is 37% less greenhouse gas intensive than its synthetic alternative. Already we're on track to be one of the first solar glass producers in the US, and by using Genesis's natural materials we can go even further to lower carbon emissions of solar manufacturing and accelerate a solar supply chain in America. 🇺🇸   "Producing high-performance solar glass in Cedartown, Georgia will help America re-shore a key piece of the solar supply chain. It will also reduce trade risk, promote innovation, and help solar manufacturers looking to benefit from domestic content clean energy tax credits. Our agreement with Genesis Alkali is a key part of onshoring the supply chain to build solar in the US.” - Suvi Sharma, CEO and co-founder of SOLARCYCLE   Jesse Simons Pablo Dias Robert Vinje Cody Mueller https://lnkd.in/g-5uutHx

  • Do you own solar panels? How important is solar reuse and recycling to you?

CEO & Founder | Making Solar Panel Recycling Easier for Everyone | Woman-owned Business Leader in Climate Tech

Solar Owners: We’re curious about your end-of-life plans for your panels. What would you be willing pay today to ensure they’re reused or recycled responsibly later? For reference, recycling today costs $25-$45/panel. We’re developing a more affordable program to manage this for you, aiming to reduce the hassle of future costs while streamlining warranty claims, insurance, and disposal. This quick poll is part of our market research to see how much the LinkedIn community values a program like this. Please vote below and suggest other ideas in the comments!

  • In the last couple of weeks, I've realized how much I love speaking with fellow startup founders working on climate solutions. This was the third opportunity in a week to talk about my experience with growing Electra and how we've overcome challenges and are facing others. If you know of any female entrepreneurs joining the climate journey, I highly recommend The Greenhouse as a safe place to build your foundation and safety net. Thank you, Anya Lamb and Anu Sanghvi, for nurturing these budding superstars!

Solar panels are 95% recyclable. But today, 90% of them end up in landfills. Heather Alvis is working to change that. She started Electra Network to make solar panel recycling convenient, transparent, and cost-effective. Electra combines a SaaS platform for solar panel lifecycle management with an innovative business model that captures a registration fee from panel manufacturers and owners to track the panel throughout its life cycle, and then uses those funds to pay for collection, hauling, and recycling once the panels are retired. We were thrilled to have Heather speak with The Greenhouse this week because Electra is a great example of how many climate solutions don’t require fundamentally new technology but instead require business model innovation to unlock a collective solution based on collaboration across diverse stakeholders. During her time with us, Heather shared how she arrived at her business model by drawing inspiration from circular economy and regenerative business principles and from insights gained from customer research across different stakeholders within panel manufacturing, operation, collection, and recycling. She also shared about how she’s funded Electra so far through prizes and grants, most notably through the American-Made Program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Thank you, Heather, for sharing your inspiring story with us! Intrigued by Electra and want to help? Heather is actively fundraising. Please reach out to her if you’re interested in learning more. Working on your own climate-related business and looking for more support and community? Join The Greenhouse to connect with, learn from, and grow alongside like-minded female founders.

  • We're always looking for partners who share our vision of a sustainable future — and that's why we're collaborating with InterConnection, a Seattle-based non-profit that is an e-waste collection hub. Not only do they refurbish computers, but will be a PV collection hub for Electra! A special shoutout to Morgan Costello-Hostettler for working closely with us to enhance check-in procedures for the pilot program. In 2023, the team at InterConnection diverted over 700,000 pounds of e-waste from landfills by refurbishing and recycling electronics. ♻️ Read more in their Impact Report here: https://lnkd.in/g-nRP-bG #TechForGood #SustainableFuture #EwasteReduction #InterConnection

  • Electra is proud to partner with Equitable Solar Solutions(TM) (ESS), a non-profit that trains volunteers to assess and safely install reused solar panels. ESS is a key program of Coldharbour Institute that supplies low-income families with access to solar energy at little to no cost. 🏡 Together, we’re planning to develop an online training curriculum and optimize logistics to ensure that decommissioned panels are efficiently directed to communities in need. Our collaboration aims to extend the overall life of panels, reduce waste, and provide clean energy access while fostering job skills and economic opportunities in underserved areas.
