The #yieldcurve inversion continuing to re-invert and the threat of broad tariffs are mounting an increasing amount of uncertainty for companies across virtually every industry. During a similarly uncertain time at Capital One in 2015, we were so prepared for a potential recession that we had a strong confidence a recession would make us better off in the long run, by capturing a larger market share from competitors that were clearly over-leveraged. Here are three essential goals that leaders of growing companies should focus on to turn this uncertainty into an opportunity: ⚖️ Optimize operations to bolster up margins 💲 Prioritize the P&L for financial health 📈 Define a strategic growth plan Lets break this down-- ⚖️ "𝐸𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡; 𝑒𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠" This should always be a top priority for any organization. With smooth operations that produce strong margins, a company gets traction fast, and stands out as a winner when the money stops flowing in the economy. 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: 1️⃣ Read Traction by Gino Wickman 2️⃣ Build a scorecard and select KPIs that are strongly tied to the P&L 3️⃣ Set goals for each KPI and keep responsible teams accountable for them 4️⃣ Each week, dig into the root cause of key performance and take away one action item for the following week to slowly iterate towards operational excellence 💲 "𝐶𝑎𝑠ℎ 𝑖𝑠 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔" This is especially true when there's less cash flowing through local economies. Also, a recession tends to be followed with lower interest rates and stricter lending policies, so now would be a good time to pay down debt and improve credit worthiness. 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: 1️⃣ Optimize operations as a pre-requisite 2️⃣ Build a cash reserve of 6-12 months of operating expenses 3️⃣ Identify loans with the highest interest rates and increase payments 4️⃣ Create a cashflow plan and stress test it against best case and worst case scenarios 3. "Adversity is the chisel that carves out excellence". With the first two goals in place, growth companies would be in a good position to expand. In a best case scenario, there is a strong financial position to invest in new product lines or double down on marketing. In a worst case scenario, there is a strong financial position to acquire struggling competitors or capture their market. 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: 1️⃣ Have the leadership team formulate a strategic growth plan under best and worst case scenarios 2️⃣ Identify a few leading indicators of how a slow down affects your industry. Automate measurement of these indicators with proactive alerts so you can respond quickly. You may have noticed these goals weren't just about survival. They are about taking advantage of an opportunity. Whether a business leader or employee, which of these three goals would you want your company to tackle first?

  • As we wrap up 2024, here is the latest and greatest from Go Fig! Go Fig was built for startups to operationalize their data in an all-in-one tool for data integration, storage, modeling and reporting. We have four pilot companies on our platform. So what exactly does it do? Imagine you needed to create an automated report from your CRM. If you wanted to do this without Go Fig , you might take the following steps every month: * Login to your CRM * Run a report with set parameters and filters * Export data to CSV * Append CSV to a master spreadsheet * Refresh formulas * Check for data issues * Update pivot tables to include the right data ranges * Update chart to include the right data ranges * Copy and paste chart to a presentation or canva report 😓That's a lot of steps! With Go Fig, we will create the integration and replicate the data processing and visualization that takes place in your spreadsheet. Its a one-time buildout, and then its set to run on autopilot with a daily refresh. What else? You also have better visibility into the data you have access to. If you take a close look at the Data tab at the beginning of the video, you will count that we integrated 34 different tables from our Hubspot CRM. 34! This includes information about companies, contacts, and all engagements with those contacts. And that's just Hubspot. Bring in your marketing, sales, operations and financials and get a clearer picture of what you're working with.

  • In the final days of 2024, we look back at where we are. We have 4 pilot companies on our platform, and have 4 client meetings already scheduled for January. We added two new integrations into our software: Hubspot and Mailchimp, and are currently adding Postgres and Netsuite for another client in January. Yet nothing makes us happier than solving problems for our customers. We've compiled a short list of praise we collected from our first 4 clients: 💖 "You're the only product that can integrate with every data source" 💖 "I haven't updated my monthly reports in 4 months because I didn't have the time and now it'll always be up to date!" 💖 "I don't adopt technology for technology's sake. It has to make sense to the bottom line for the business. Consolidating my data in one place is incredibly practical" 💖 "I like how I can do everything in just one tool" Here's to more time savings and problem solving for more high growth startups in 2025!

  • I had the pleasure of touring an industrial shop in Anderson this week that is fully embracing the future of innovations, including Industry 4.0 and IoT, that will shape the way they will serve their customers. They already have a reputation of being technical experts on behalf of their clients in how they track and organize data. They are now taking the next big step by using Go Fig to enhance their data Q&A, visualization and predictive modeling: 1) equip the entire team with access to real-time insights to spot trends and spark new ideas 2) anticipate the needs of clients such as maintenance schedules to prevent costly downtime 3) expand consulting services to their clients based on their industry expertise

  • 🚨NOVEMBER MILESTONE UPDATE This month, we've successfully onboarded our first two customers to the new Go Fig data management and analytics platform! By the numbers: #️⃣ over 20,000 rows of data have been sourced from 6 different software, and syncing new data every day 🧹 6 No-Code ETL Workflows were created to clean data after every daily sync 💡 2 Analyses were performed to deep dive pressing business challenges 🔄 4 Automated Dashboards were created to monitor performance on an ongoing basis It is validating to see the mouths of these first clients open up in awe realizing the time and painstaking effort they are now able to save to track their business in one place. What's next-- we're working with these clients to make Go Fig dashboards a core component of managing SOPs (standard operating procedures) as they will allow managers to monitor adherence of their staff to day-to-day operations and respond quickly and efficiently to issues before they bubble up. This has been an exciting week for me and our team, and we're riding on the backs of this momentum to do more in December. Onward!

  • When enabled "with the right data tools", frontline employees can solve big problems for companies at a faster velocity. Most other data tools on the market are catered to technical data teams, and leave out everyone else. We're different.

I have a recurring monthly meeting with frontline customer support agents. This week, I was asked for help to assist in their effort to build a Looker dashboard to summarize key metrics by inquiry category to help the team better understand customer needs and assess their ability to service them. I always accept the opportunity to help out. Because in my career, I have come to understand that people on the frontlines like these CS agents see a lot of problems that I don't see in the back office. I learn something new every month-- customers' problems, pain points and needs that were obvious to the team members that interact directly with our customers day-in and day-out. I attribute a lot of my organization's success to strategic priorities that I was able to influence by surfacing insights from these meetings to the leadership team. My mission recently has been to enable this team with the right data tools and decision-making ability, so that our organization can increase the velocity by which we solve big problems for our customers. I believe empowering frontline employees is a win-win-win: higher employee retention, improved customer experience outcomes, and stronger growth impact.
