Here's a preview of a 610 kW solar project that our team is finishing up in Herington, Kansas. Once it's fully operational, these ground-mounted solar arrays will provide enough clean renewable energy to offset a large portion of the farm's monthly electricity bills. There's been a lot of worry about the future of solar in the United States with a pause in funding for both the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act. While some clean energy programs have come under fire including plans for new EV charging networks and rollbacks of appliance efficiency standards, the 30% solar tax credit is still available to homeowners and businesses. Have you heard about the REAP Grant? This federal program offers big incentives for commercial solar installations in rural areas. Here's an example of a commercial installation in Emporia that was able to take advantage of the program. Between the REAP grant (up to 50% of the project cost), the 30% federal tax credit from the Inflation Reduction Act, depreciation and other incentives, the owner of the historical Kress building in downtown Emporia only had to pay a small fraction of the actual cost of installing solar. We're finishing up the final touches on the historical County Courthouse. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, this is the only building ever designed for use as the seat of county government in Douglas County. The interior rehabilitation of the county commission chamber on the second floor was damaged in 2022 by a malfunction in the fire-suppression sprinkler system.
