On June 1, 2013, Lakeisha was abusing drugs inside the bathroom of her home in Bowling Green when she had a vision that led to a turning point in her life. “My daughter was going to find me overdosed in the bathroom,” she said. “When I felt that, I immediately came out of the bathroom, I got to my knees and prayed to God. I was sweating and shaking. I really felt like I was about to go. I asked God, ‘If you let me wake up and see another day, and let me see my kids, you’ll never have to worry about me looking back.’” Since that day, Lakeisha has remained sober and rebuilt her life with help from Goodwill. She was hired at our Campbellsville Road store in 2016 and has accomplished her dream of opening her own eyelash business, Keisha Unique Eyes! “People look at you and don’t realize what you’ve been through,” she said. “I’ve been through so much, and I’m still standing. And I’m going to keep going because I have bigger dreams. I hope and pray my story helps others.” Read Lakeisha’s full story at GoodwillKY.org/Lakeisha! #MissionMonday

About us
Goodwill Industries of Kentucky helps people with disabilities or other challenges achieve and maintain employment to gain a better quality of life. Founded in Louisville, KY in 1923, Goodwill has 66 retail stores throughout the state that provide opportunities for hands-on experience in customer service, cashiering, time management, and production/processing. Donations of clothing and household items are the fuel that keeps Goodwill's engine running; they generate revenue to support our 11 Opportunity Centers around the state, to support job preparation, training, and placement programs for people who face barriers to finding and maintaining employment.

Eleven years ago, Aneica was sentenced to eight years in prison for drug charges. As a 12-time convicted felon, she had a hard time reintegrating into society – until she found her second chance at Goodwill. Within three years of being hired, Aneica was promoted to senior store manager. She also paid off the car she received through Goodwill, got a brand-new smile, and earned her peer support certification. “If it wasn’t for Goodwill, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” she said. “I owe it all to them. I owe Goodwill my life.” Read Aneica’s story at GoodwillKY.org/Aneica #MissionMonday

This year was another monumental one for us at Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, highlighted by the opening of the Norton Healthcare Goodwill Opportunity Campus and our West Louisville Opportunity Center, the largest mission-related investment in our 101-year history. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg listed the development as one of the most significant of 2024 ➡️ https://shorturl.at/Du0bX
