About us
Goodwill Industries of Kentucky helps people with disabilities or other challenges achieve and maintain employment to gain a better quality of life. Founded in Louisville, KY in 1923, Goodwill has 66 retail stores throughout the state that provide opportunities for hands-on experience in customer service, cashiering, time management, and production/processing. Donations of clothing and household items are the fuel that keeps Goodwill's engine running; they generate revenue to support our 11 Opportunity Centers around the state, to support job preparation, training, and placement programs for people who face barriers to finding and maintaining employment.

Because of Dillon’s justice-involved past, he couldn’t find reliable employment to rebuild his life. But that changed when he was introduced to the programs and services available at our South Louisville Opportunity Center. After completing our job-readiness training at the Center, he was hired at our 2nd Chance Outlet next door. Since then, he’s earned his forklift certification, a brand-new smile, has purchased a vehicle, and even earned his MIG Welding certification. He now makes $20 per hour as a welder! Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that encourages individuals to donate to organizations that positively impact their communities. At Goodwill, we help tens of thousands of Kentuckians each year who are facing poverty, homelessness, justice involvement, addiction and much more, like Joni, who came to Goodwill while residing in a sober living home. She now works as a Career Coach in Lexington. “I didn’t think there was any hope for me,” she said. “I had reached such a dark, scary and lonely spot. I didn’t think there was any getting out of it. But Goodwill gave me a second chance to be able to prove myself.” Watch Joni’s full story and support our mission by visiting GoodwillKY.org/Giving.

After serving 16 months in prison for drug trafficking, Michael was determined to turn his life around. His reentry journey led him to our Bowling Green Opportunity Center, where he found a support system that helped him rebuild his life. Now, he works as a plumber for Stewart Richey Contracting Group and earns $18 per hour. “Their support has been the world to me,” he said. “I know I can call them if I need something. They’ll help me figure it out. And that’s hard to find.” Read Michael’s full story at GoodwillKY.org/Michael. #MissionMonday
