Creating life changing opportunities through the power of work. 100% local 100% nonprofit.

About us

With the support of our entire community, we create life changing opportunities through training and the power of work. Goodwill SF Bay serves thousands of people in our community every year who are emerging from military service, incarceration, homelessness, recovery from addiction – or simply lacking education or job skills. We provide no cost career services, job training and connections to jobs at Goodwill or one of our 334 employer partners. Goodwill relies on a combination of material and financial donations. While many nonprofits must raise 100% of their operating and program budget, our employment social enterprise allows us to leverage every item donated through our 33 donation centers and purchased at one of our 34 stores, 2 warehouse outlets or online - to generate 85% of the revenue we need. This leaves a gap of 15% to be raised through philanthropy and government support.

  • Jermila McCoy is the Reentry Program Manager at Goodwill SF Bay, a role she excels at due to her dedication and passion for helping others navigate the transition from incarceration to a bright, purpose-driven future. But her career advancement has been challenged by her own past with the justice system and the ankle monitor she wore for over three and a half years. Jermila’s perseverance through this challenge has made her even better in her role as Reentry Program Manager. She can mentor clients who are in similar situations, helping them through obstacles that she also has faced. She says, “I know what they’re going through, and I can help them navigate these barriers because I’ve been there. I want them to know that while it’s tough, there is a path forward.” Read more about Jermila's story and the work of our Reentry Program here: https://lnkd.in/gr5Z-P8q

  • U.S. Marine Corps veteran Michelle Hersey faced adversity in returning to civilian life, but overcame it to become a pillar of her community. After several years serving in the Mojave Desert, she struggled with employment and housing security. A pivotal moment in Michelle's journey came when she connected with our Veterans Employment Training and Support Program. "Meeting Goodwill's representative was a turning point," she recalls. Today, she's empowering others and working towards her dream of running her own business. • At Goodwill SF Bay, our Bay Area community is at the heart of what we do! We had a great time at the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce’s October BASH, connecting with local businesses, nonprofit leaders, and community supporters. It was a fun and interactive event that sparked meaningful conversations and new partnerships. It was a pleasure meeting Nadia Padilla and her team from SAMA and learning about their incredible work supporting survivors of assault and domestic violence. As a nonprofit focused on helping vulnerable individuals achieve stable jobs and financial independence, Goodwill proudly supports their mission! 🙌 Looking forward to more opportunities to engage and make a positive impact together! 🌟 #GoodwillSFBay #CommunityEngagement #Networking #BayArea"
