AI is no longer a future concept—it's the present reality transforming financial services. At Money 20/20 Europe, under the theme "Human X Machine," industry leaders explored the transformative potential of AI. Key takeaways include: *AI's Evolution: NVIDIA's Kevin Levitt described AI's shift from data retrieval to generation, predicting widespread adoption in financial services. *Responsible AI: Microsoft's Patrice Amman highlighted the importance of addressing risks like data privacy and bias, stressing the need for responsible AI investment. *Investment Strategies: Javier Perez, co-founder of Global PayTech Ventures and former CEO of Mastercard Europe, emphasised the importance of seamless integration, security, and domain expertise in future payment technologies. *Open Banking: Discussions on Open Banking, or Pay by Bank, underscored its potential for cost savings, the necessity for consumer adoption, and fraud prevention. The #Money2020Europe event was an invaluable learning opportunity for fintech professionals, providing information on #AI, #OpenBanking, as well as emerging payment technologies. Great summary!!
In a post for Payments Consulting Network and Merchant Advisory, I've taken a look at some of my highlights from this year's Money20/20 Europe in Amsterdam. It was insightful to hear Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, and Jonathan Userovici, General Partner at Headline (VC), discuss implementing AI in financial services. Mistral AI offers a start-up enablement programme alongside its VC partners, which seems of great value to fintech companies building AI into their businesses. How could you follow this? Well the next panel featured Amy O'Brien hosting a conversation with Patrice Amman from Microsoft and Kevin Levitt from NVIDIA. Both speakers shared insights from their respective organisations and provided an overview of some of the use cases they are seeing with generative AI, of which hundreds or even thousands are currently being worked on. Later, on the same day, Javier Perez of Global PayTech Ventures discussed investing in fintech with Simon Taylor. Javier emphasized the importance of domain-level knowledge that pure fintech investors can bring to the table, and how this can help start-ups navigate the challenges of going to market. The next day, there was a whole stage of Open Banking and Pay by Bank (PBB) discussions. Particularly interesting was “Can I Pay for My Coffee with It? Making Pay by Bank Work?” which discussed what's stopping PBB from being as widespread as card adoption. Here there were interesting observations from Brian Dammeir, Emma Steeley, and Ian Morrin. There's lots more innovation to come in this area it seems! In addition to the various panels, it was great talking with Brendan Le Grange, Geoffrey Barraclough, and seeing Geoff White's very popular book talk! As usual with Money 20/20, there was time—but never enough time—to also meet with many friends and ex-colleagues and learn more about what's going on in the wider payments industry. https://lnkd.in/eGQPM8uZ

Another amazing Money20/20 this year in #Amsterdam. It is by far one of our favorite annual conferences! It was a pleasure getting to meet and speak with the thousands of talented founders, investors, and companies innovating, improving, and pathing the future of Fintech and Payments Special thanks to the wonderful team at Money20/20 (@AlmaSolera Ian Horne), Simon Taylor, everyone we met with, and everyone who came to the Horizon Stage to see our Founder & Managing Partner, Javier Perez speak about the future of Payments! In case you missed it, here are the topics Javier spoke about in “How Should I Invest in the Future of Payments?” 1. Convenience is the overarching trend in payments. That means seamless, integrated, instant, secure, cheap and value-added payments 2. Convenient payments are embedded/invisible finance, and this is where the industry should go 3. Founders benefit from seeking investors who offer more than just money. Operating experience and contextual knowledge can lead to fruitful relationships between founders and investors #fintech #paytech #payments #financialtechnology #money2020 #Europe #startups #founders #venturecapital
