We provide a loving home for indigent, homeless and abandoned individuals at the end of life.

About us

Grace House Akron (GHA) is grounded in the knowledge that there are too many individuals in our community, who are at the end of life, with nowhere to go, and no one to care for them. We believe that everyone deserves to die in the presence of care, compassion, and dignity, and that no one should die alone. Our mission is to provide a loving home for indigent, homeless and abandoned individuals at the end of life. Our vision is to provide access to compassionate care and comfort, at the end of life for anyone in the greater Akron area, at no cost. We fulfill our mission and vision by providing those at the end of life, in conjunction with partner hospice teams, a nurturing environment, basic physical needs (food, safe shelter and personal care), dignity, comfort and compassion, and emotional and spiritual support. GHA serves vulnerable, hospice enrolled adults in Summit County, with terminal illnesses, who are without caregiver support and would otherwise spend their final days alone and/ or in undesirable conditions. Risk factors include homelessness, housing insecure, mental health issues, addiction disorders, abandoned or friendless, poverty/indigency; veteran or refugee status, disability and addiction/ dependency.

  • We held our memorial service for those who ended their journey on earth here at Grace House from May 2024 - September 2024. It was a beautiful service with family, friends, volunteers, and our spiritual advisory members. As our beloved volunteer, Tim, gave an acoustic performance of Over the Rainbow, we sat together to remember those with whom we formed relationships, reminiscing about our conversations and the final moments we shared. Although we miss their presence here with us, we are thankful for the time we shared with them. Every resident leaves an imprint on all of us at Grace House; on days like these, we take some extra time to cherish those memories. Please enjoy some photos from the evening of our memorial service, and have a great weekend, everyone!

  • If you've been into Grace House this week, it may have looked chaotic. The team took on the mighty task of organizing and decluttering every room in the building to make the most of our space. In addition, we've been working on making welcome kits for when residents arrive, including all the essentials to feel right at home. We are making progress! We want to bring to your attention the need for volunteers in the Akron community. • We received a very generous donation from Cleveland Clinic Hospice Care Center. They arrived with an SUV filled with trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, tissues, laundry detergent, canned goods, coffee, juice, spices, cake mix, brownie mixes, pasta, and much more! We were overjoyed to receive this incredible delivery. Thank you!

  • Ed came to us after his declining health prevented him from working to keep his housing. Upon his arrival, he expressed his gratitude for Grace House. Family and friends surrounded him before his passing. We were thankful to be able to provide care and comfort to him during his final days. ❤️🕊️
