At LA’s BEST, the mission to provide children with safe, enriching, and inspiring after-school programming is more vital than ever. For 37 years, this organization has been a beacon for children and families. But like many nonprofits, LA’s BEST faced significant hurdles—rebuilding after leadership transitions, limited fundraising capacity, and stretched-thin resources created an uphill battle. When their grant writer left unexpectedly after being handed a federal application, it became clear that they needed strategic support to bridge the gap. Enter LA’s BEST Chief Executive Officer Michele Broadnax, MBA. A champion for education and children, Michele recognized that to drive the organization forward, she needed to focus her energy on building relationships and setting a vision for the future—not getting mired in the weeds of grant applications. That’s where Grants Plus came in. Through our "Bridge the Gap" engagement, we partnered with Michele and her team to provide the strategic and writing expertise they needed to meet their fundraising goals. During the first month of our partnership alone, we've submitted 6 proposals requesting over $500,000 in funding. In just a short time, we’ve been able to help them realign their grant strategy, lighten their team’s load, and position LA’s BEST for long-term success—making a difference for children in Los Angeles. By helping the organization rebuild its grants program, we’ve freed its leaders to focus on their highest priorities: ensuring every child has a safe place to learn, grow, and dream after school. It’s been an honor to support their incredible work. The children served by LA’s BEST are at the heart of everything we do. Their stories inspire us to push harder, think bigger, and do more. Because when we support nonprofits like LA’s BEST, we’re not just writing grants—we’re helping to create brighter futures for the next generation. https://lnkd.in/eF-jPXdB

🎉 Huge congratulations to Elev8 Baltimore, Latin American Youth Center, San Mar Family and Community Services, Child First Authority Inc, CHEER, United Communities Against Poverty, Inc., and all of the inaugural grantees of the ENOUGH Grants Program! And special thanks to Harlem Children's Zone and the William Julius Wilson institute team for spearheading the passage and implementation of this initiative, which will have a resounding impact on efforts to end child poverty. Hear directly from Gov. Wes Moore and three of the grantees about the profound impact of the program and the potential to scale across the country 👇
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced the inaugural grantees of the ENOUGH Grant Program, a first-in-the-nation, state-wide, place-based initiative to end concentrated child poverty. The 27 grantee organizations, representing Maryland’s urban, rural, and suburban communities, will receive funding and technical assistance from the state to combat child poverty at the neighborhood level through cross-sector partnerships. Our William Julius Wilson Institute team, which played an instrumental role in the passage and implementation of the ENOUGH Act, spoke with Governor Moore and three of the grantees, Elev8 Baltimore, Latin American Youth Center, and San Mar Family and Community Services about the transformative impact the ENOUGH Grant Program will have on children and families, and its potential to serve as a national model. #PowerofPlace

#TuesdayTip Nonprofit board members can excel at fundraising without asking for money. Here's how: ☑️ Leverage Personal and Professional Networks. Introducing the organization to foundations, corporations, or influential individuals within their network can pave the way for potential funding. ☑️ Be a Storyteller. By sharing stories that highlight the nonprofit’s successes, the challenges it faces, and the difference it makes on social media, at networking events, and even in casual conversations, board members can inspire and motivate others to support the cause. ☑️ Advocate for the Cause. By becoming vocal advocates for the nonprofit’s cause, board members can influence public opinion and policy, potentially leading to public funding, grants, and increased community support. ☑️ Create and Share Content. Board members can contribute by writing blogs, recording videos, or sharing photographs that showcase the nonprofit’s work and impact, and by sharing the nonprofit’s content on their personal social media. ☑️ Host Awareness Events. While the primary goal may not be to solicit donations, these events create a platform for potential donors to learn more about the cause, meet the people involved, and see firsthand the impact of their support. ☑️ Share Skills and Expertise. Nonprofit board members often come from diverse professional backgrounds, bringing a wealth of skills, such as marketing, legal advice, strategic planning, or financial management, that can save the nonprofit considerable resources.
