Another fantastic animation from Paul Wischmeyer. Great visualization of a C-section. Thanks for sharing Paul. Now let's keep those babies safe, especially if they are in a NICU. Gravitas Medical
Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery with Tenure; Director-Perioperative Research, Duke Clinical Research Institute
C-section explained - layer by layer through the abdominal wall ✂️ 🔎 The surgical process for a C-section briefly involves: 1. **Anesthesia**: Administering anesthesia, usually a spinal block or epidural, to numb the lower half of the body. 2. **Incisions**: Making a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen, just above the pubic hairline, followed by an incision in the uterus. 3. **Delivery**: The baby is gently lifted out through the incisions. The umbilical cord is cut, and the baby is handed to pediatric care. 4. **Closing Incisions**: The placenta is removed, the uterus is sutured, and the abdominal incision is closed with stitches, staples, or surgical glue. 5. **Recovery**: Involves rest and monitoring for complications, with a longer healing period than vaginal birth. Grant Visscher would be 15 years old, learning to drive, and a Sophomore at Chatfield Senior High School. But his journey ended after 11 days because of a misplaced feeding tube. Read Grant's story: https://lnkd.in/g6PVGHa7 Over 250,000 feeding tubes are misplaced and 3,000+ people die in the US each year. These should be "never events". https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn

Grant's only family picture... Grant Visscher was 11 days old when a misplaced feeding tube ended his life. This is the only family picture taken with him alive. His Mom, Deahna, bravely chronicled his short life's story in words and pictures that takes some courage to read: https://lnkd.in/g6PVGHa7 Deahna says "something needs to be done about it" when talking about feeding tube misplacement injuries. Gravitas Medical heard her and is preparing to launch Entarik for Infants this Fall. https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn

This week we featured 4 incredible players whose lives have been directly touched by NICU teams. These players realized their dreams because of fantastic work done by neonatal critical care teams. Enjoy the Super Bowl! Next Fall, when NFL teams take the field again, Gravitas Medical will launch the Entarik platform for neonatal use, making more stories like Derick's, Matt's, Dellarin's, and Tyler's possible. https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn

Tyler Ott was born 5 weeks premature and spent 10 days in the NICU. Now he's a long snapper in the NFL. While he won't be playing in this weekend's Super Bowl, he did earn Pro Bowl honors in 2021. Tyler partners with March of Dimes: https://lnkd.in/gWHHdfTp This Fall, when Tyler takes the field again, Gravitas Medical will launch the Entarik platform for neonatal use, making more stories like Tyler's possible. https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn

Born at 6 months and weighing 3lb 13oz, Dellarin Turner-Yell is our 3rd "NICU to NFL" spotlight player of Super Bowl week. "I could fit into the palm of her hands", Dellarin said when speaking about his hero, his mom. And now his hands are tackling offensive players on Sundays in the Fall. Dellarin's story is yet another that highlights the importance of NICUs for premature infants. The NICU staff that nurtured him through the first weeks of his life are everyday heroes that got him started on the road to realizing his dream. And now, as a Denver Bronco wearing a legendary number (32), he is living that dream. https://lnkd.in/gWa23fC7 Dellarin suffered a severe knee injury late in the season but, if anyone can beat the odds, it's Dellarin Turner-Yell. This Fall, when Dellarin takes the field again, Gravitas Medical will launch the Entarik platform for neonatal use, and will forever improve the odds for all NICU patients. https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn

Matt Ryan spent 15 seasons in the NFL amassing 62,792 passing yards and playing in 10 postseason games, including Super Bowl LI. He and his wife welcomed twin sons on April 8, 2018 at 30 weeks and 6 days, both weighing just under 3lbs. Their "preemie story" ended well with both going home after a 5+ week stay in the NICU at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA: https://lnkd.in/dFzxbHFA The Ryans' story highlights the important work done in NICUs everyday. Matt is a wonderful ambassador creating awareness of the lifesaving accomplishments by incredible teams dedicated to helping tiny patients win their early life battles. Gravitas Medical shares Matt's passion for saving lives in every ICU. https://lnkd.in/g3tN8Vdn
