  • Thanks for the shoutout, SBA NC District Office!

We are pleased to announce that Dylan Gehrken, President of Greasecycle, LLC, is the U.S. Small Business Administration 2024 Small Business Person of the Year for the state of North Carolina. Dylan was nominated by Elaine Fairman of BEFCOR - Business Expansion Funding Corporation, an SBA certified development company.   Since 2009, the Raleigh-based company has turned trash into treasure. The company starts this process by containing and collecting two environmentally sensitive waste streams from restaurants: used cooking oil and grease trap waste. Then, at its two plants (one in Charlotte and one in Raleigh), it transforms this material into renewable fuel feedstock, clean water, and compost. To support its expansion into the Charlotte market, the company took out an SBA 504 loan through BEFCOR, taking advantage of the low, 10 percent down payment.   Greasecycle’s finished product is refined into renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel in Louisiana, California, and also Europe. While the volume varies annually, exporting has approached 50 percent of revenue in some years.   Join us in congratulating Dylan as North Carolina’s Small Business Person of the Year for 2024. Watch this space for more on our upcoming National Small Business Week announcements.
