Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Tech

gener8tor has been awarded $13.4M from the U.S. Department of Commerce and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration to launch the Great Lakes Innovation Accelerator! Over the next four years, we'll invest in 60 startups developing water technologies that strengthen the Great Lakes region. Each company will receive: - $100k in non-dilutive funding - Access to specialized testing facilities - Connections to major industry partners - Expert mentorship and support Through partnerships with the Great Lakes Observing System, Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Tech, Cleveland Water Alliance, Northwestern Michigan College, and dozens of other universities, non-profits, venture funds and corporations, we're building a powerful ecosystem to help these companies succeed. The program will be led by Managing Director Soham Dalal, P.E., and co-principal investigator Dexter Artienda (along with Ryan Jeffery, who leads our sustainability efforts). 🔬 Dr. Gordon Paterson presented Great Lakes conservation research at #SETAC2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. The team's innovative study reveals significant epigenetic changes in Lake Superior fish populations exposed to legacy mining contamination at Buffalo Reef. Using advanced DNA sequencing techniques, they've identified crucial biological responses that could inform a multi-billion dollar restoration project.
